me7, ALL your favorite bands be losing bassists these days!

First Leprous, now Haken. Makes me wonder who is next...

just don't add BTBAM or unexpecT to your favorites (if you haven't already); i'd be quite the  :sadpanda: if either lost their low end.

I'm big into the mountain. I've listened to the vinyl every night since it arrived!
I'm not a fan of the electronic drums, but aside from that I love every second of it!

Yeah not to worry, nobody else wanted them either :p shame, as the show was sold out so I know someone probably missed out on account of my not being able to go :( To make it worse, the car broke on the way to the band rehearsal, which meant I didn't see the winery dogs, didn't do the all important last rehearsal before the debut gig, but did sit by a field for over an hour watching the sunset!

But yeah, the Haken album is fantastic. I always find myself torn with Haken though, on the one hand I love the really wacky stuff they used to do, but at the same time thought it would have worked better being more serious, but now they have got a bit more serious (cockroach king is the only song that springs to mind that is a bit silly off the new album) I find myself wishing for merry go round bits...

Yeah, wack does wonders in small doses. My initial thoughts on The Mountain was that it almost crossed the line at some points. But since it never does, it's still a great album.

I just hope they don't crank up the wack any further on the next record.

In response to the comments about whether they should continue their wackiness, I'm not worried about Haken's musical future at all. As long they put forth the same effort and heart that they have been putting into their music, I'm sure I will enjoy it, regardless of how wacky it is.

The wackiness has reduced with each album so far, but I suppose it could come back stronger again in the future. Only time will tell.

Really? I find the Mountain more wacky that Visions or Aquarius.

You can almost hear the growls in the studio version; live Ross just amplifies that a bit. It's the 'Breathe in the air...' section.

When I saw them live on September the 3rd, this was the setlist:

The Path Unbeaten (intro tape)
Atlas Stone
Eternal Rain
Cockroach King
The Mind's Eye
Portals
Shapeshifter
In Memoriam
As Death Embraces
Deathless
Pareidolia
Drowning in the Flood
---
(Encore:)
Celestial Elixir

They haven't played any other songs from The Mountain live as of yet, but I hope I can catch Falling Back to Earth live next week at ProgPower Europe!

Finally just listened to it, and I quite like it! Which is weird because I didn't like Aquarius and Visions the first time.

You mean "Breathe in the pain..." right? Because "Breathe in the air..." is the quietest part of the song. :lol

What's your favorite album so far in 2013? Any new bands you've come across that are of a highlight for you?

I love The Mountain by Haken. Those young lads are doing some incredible stuff!

There we have it, he prefers TM over DT12. Can we now consider it a fact that TM > DT12?

Excellent. :rollin

More good exposure to the band though, following MP's plugging of them. It's so great to see them getting this recognition!

I remember JR asked on Twitter a few weeks ago for everyone to send him the names of 3 newer bands for him to check out. Haken was one of my suggestions and that of many others as well.

After listening to them back to back, I think The Mountain beats DT12 by a lot. Both are amazing albums though.

What Haken fact did I learn tonight?

That is takes one "The Mountain" to embalm a cooperative body. Was seriously putting the final instruments away as the last note played out.

Kind of reminds me of Spock's Beard's "Thoughts" at times. Definitely my favorite song off the album.
