Not sure why everyone automatically want to compare the new Haken album with the new DT album. Because DT was a big influence on early Haken? People don't compare DT with Rush, for the same reason, because that's just silly. Or DT with Iron Maiden.

Get Prime and they ship orders separately in those cases. They even overnight stuff to get stuff that is delayed some times.
I don't really use Amazon enough to justify getting prime.

This. Even the early Haken stuff barely sounds like DT. Two very different animals.

I see no problems at all in ranking the two (comparing them is another thing, they are two different bands!).

These albums were the two most anticipated releases of 2013 for me, and I would rank The Mountain above DT12 so far. With time it could change.

Not sure why everyone automatically want to compare the new Haken album with the new DT album.

Because they are two famous progressive metal bands that released new albums very close to each other. And this is DTF, any excuse and opportunity to rank things is made and taken.

Yes, DTF once tried to rank DT with Stryper. The mods had to take actions, it was not a pretty sight.

BTW, has anyone heard To-Mera? It features Richard and Tom from Haken. I haven't heard them, but I'm interested if anyone of you has heard them and would recommend something.

They're very different. Much less accessible in some ways, but still an interesting band. They're first couple of albums were pretty good but not amazing, but their latest, Exile, is actually really damn good.

Bought this album 3 days ago, but haven't really been able to get a chance to sit down and listen to it. Well, I'm listening to The Mountain for the first time now!   :yarr

WTF this album is insane. Up to Cockroach King, which is great. Lots of Gentle Giant and King Crimson influences with that classic Haken vibe. Don't understand those who don't like it. Atlas Stone might be one of the best Haken songs. Great tune. Love the opening track too.

Love the amount of jazz fusion added to the mix. Just what I wanted DT to do, but they never did it.

Because It's There might be the most interesting song so far, I like the electronic blips, and those vocal harmonies! Moon Safari's competitor???

What a band!

For the swedes in this thread, me and my dad always refers to Thomas as "Björn Gustafsson" because of the blond hair he's rockin'. It always makes me smile or laugh when I see him when I think of that.

I am quite certain all swedes will get that referense.

New to this band and have now listened to all three cds and  like all three.  Does anyone see the Kansas influence in the first cd(Aquarius).  Also, in the song 'drowning in the flood' the singer sounds a lot like the Creed singer.  So much variety on all three cd's.

Just got thru looking at the Haken official site and the green Heineken like t shirt is cool.  Premium Quality Progressive Rock.

Funny, I don't feel the need in comparing The Mountain with DT like many of you do. Though I can say now with confidence that The Mountain sounds like Haken and DT sounds like DT and i'm very happy with that. Both bands surprised me in a good way.
Exactly. Personally though, I do prefer The Mountain, but just because it's more suited to my tastes. Both are great!

heh. after not logging in for a couple, i specifically logged in tonight to see how people in this thread were comparing the two.

Second listen. I'm definitely sure it's just as good as the first 2 albums at this point. Going back and forth between this album and DT12, there is some magical stuff going on. Lots of beautiful moments on TM, Somebody might be my favorite so far, especially that epic ending OMG!!!

The ending of Somebody is so epic. It's a really good song, one of my least favourites on the album, but that's just a reflection of how completely in love with the album I am!

Completely, that chorus was entirely stuck in my head within a couple of days of me hearing the album. My favourite part of the whole album!

I just don't enjoy this band's style.

I already wasn't a big fan of the circus music. I guess they're just too quirky for me. The two singles didn't do much for me either. Oh well.

Could well be, although this is easily their least quirky album (Cockroach King aside) in my opinion. If you want to check out anything else from the album, the run of songs In Memoriam - Because It's There - Falling Back to Earth are the best songs on the album, in my opinion. Very mature and serious and quite intense.

And I wish I could ban people for describe anything quirky as "circus" or "carnival" music. It's so ridiculous.

In the case of Aquarius though, given the nature of the story, those sounds WERE circus and carnival sounds.  :rollin

Since we're at it, is it fair to label the quirky sections of "Blind" as circus music as well?
