wikipedia quoted an interview which Cedric said the new album sounded like "future punk"

Yeah, they said a long time ago (so it may not be relevant anymore but it still might be) that the album would be an almost complete departure from their old sound. Fairly straight-forward and punkish and stuff.

Also, I have Bedlam and Octahedron. Shall I listen to both in a row?  :millahhhh

After hating it for so long, I'm really into Octahedron at the moment. For the past few days I've woken up with either Teflon or Desperate Graves stuck in my head. I'm really glad I didn't just write it off because it has some spectacular moments going on.

Octahedron is awesome and I won't understand the hate for it. I finally bought it a few weeks ago after only hearing select tracks from a friend (who also hated it) and it has been getting plays everyday. Sure, it is kind of like "Volta Lite", but that isn't a bad thing. The rhythms are there, the melodies are there, it is just pulled back a little bit and everything has a bit more room to breathe.

The only song that hasn't clicked with me yet is the last track. The last song on volta albums ALWAYS take me awhile to appreciate though, I think it is just because I usually arrive at the end of the album with my mind blown.  :lol

I'm probably about five or six listens into Goliath now. This is just as good as their first three. If you asked me to rank those first four albums, I don't think I could do it at all. My default answer would be Frances, because that was my first album of theirs and traditionally my favourite, but in reality, I probably like all four albums about the same. Insane consistency.

Octahedron's still only gotten two listens. I figure I'll focus on it once Bedlam takes its course. It doesn't sound terrible, but it does sound inferior to the others. Who knows, maybe it'll pick up.

Copernicus

Desperate Graves
Halo of Nembutals
Luciforms
Cotopaxi
Teflon

A very consistent album, now that I look at it song-by-song. Some of the vocals are just haunting and the melodies are even better than usual, on the whole. I feel like every single song could have been the single with a bit of editing. However, the highs don't reach as high as they do on Comatorium, Frances, or Goliath.

It's definitely interesting, but I feel like it's just lacking something. It is only a 30 second clip from a 5 minute song from a 65 minute album, so I'm not discouraged.

That's probably one of the angriest sounding vocals I've ever heard from Cedric and I like it. ;D

Can't wait to hear the whole thing.

Suggestions on where to start for a Volta fan? (For my album rankings and favourite songs, look a little further back in the thread. If you want. ;D)

I found used copies of De-Loused In The Comatorium and Amputechture on Thursday. Holy shit, De-Loused is awesome. I feel like my ears just got their asses kicked.

I've listened to it twice. Definitely not what I was expecting. I was expecting this tune to come out and immediately kick my ass, and it didn't do that, but there's something interesting happening here.

I don't care for the mix at all, but I'll wait until I get my hands on the physical copy before I pass judgment.

Well... that made for confusing listening. Really not sure what I think of it yet. Might have to wait until I have the rest of the album as context.

This song sounds very uninteresting to me. I thought it was going to get better after the second verse/chorus, but it didn't, because more plodding verses came in. The last 30 seconds or so were ok with the addition of some horns (sounds like it), but it was still that same chorus....

For the first time ever, I will not blindly purchase a new TMV album. Maybe I'll try before I buy.
