Ultimetal:

I respect your thoughts.  And thus hopefully you would respect ours too.

First, please acknowledge the part that says that there is a rights holder who is licensing this to us for VINYL ONLY.  As well, the band has attempted to get these onto vinyl for quite some time and finally all agreements were made amenable.

In addition to the archival factors (vinyl can in theory last for 50-100 years or more if well-maintained, versus CDs which have a very limited shelf-life), the sound quality is considered to be different and often better, as well the fact that limited vinyl releases are more specialized/carefully administered/collectible/unable to be copied/created for audiophiles and the super fans.

If we were to release this on CD, there is no doubt that we could have made a ton more profit on each unit and reached a wider audience.  But that is not the point.  The digital versions of these records are quite easily available.  I don't think there's been a huge attempt to hide the fact that these are freely downloadable.  motW's latest album was distributed freely.

The only way to make a difference in this world is to make the change, though.  So, I encourage you instead of being angry and telling us we're doing the wrong thing... to start releasing CD's yourself :)

We are releasing this set because we believe in it.  Personally, I have been listening to vinyl since I was a child and never stopped.  I went from being interested in vinyl pop as a youth to vinyl punk and hardcore as a teenager and into metal vinyl as an adult.  So for me, there's been no huge retro shift.  If you saw my collection, it contains records from all periods of my life.

I can't speak for others, but I am going to be very happy to own this now on official CD and vinyl.

As an aside, I signed up for this board a few days ago, but an administrator just approved me, so I came here just in time to talk to you   :tup

seasonsinthesky:

Thank you!  We can't wait to get these pressed either.  We're so close to selling out, and we've already begun the production process!

Our USA partner label just SOLD OUT.  We are the only ones in the world with remaining copies.  We've got a few left and are shipping worldwide.

We were able to get a great deal on shipping just for this day.  Apologies to people living anywhere else, we just got lucky here.

We have less than 15 copies remaining, this may sell us out.

I'm actually very tempted to just do this, my only gripe with it is that's it's vinyl, which I don't have a player for. Will this ever be, or has this ever been released on CD?

It's been released on CD, but it's currently out of print and thus pretty hard to find/expensive.

Hey there, as Sigz says, CDs have been released... a couple of times but in limited numbers, and they've been out of print now for about 5 years, so... the eBay costs can come in as much as this set.

As far as we know, the rights holder doesn't ever intend to repress this on CD.  Of course, there are no guarantees in life, but that's how it stands now.

There will be a very limited run of a more barebones version (regular black vinyl in jackets) in a bit, but the box sets are just about sold out.  We'll have free USA shipping just for the one day.

It'll just be marked down on our store between the stated hours on Fri:

Well, I just did it. I bought it. However, this is the first time ever I've bought something with Paypal, so please help me out on this one.
How can I see whether I've paid or not, and how will I know from you guys that you got my money (or not)?

Thanks.

So, after all that ranting about CD's... :) We listened to the few fans who were asking for them and tried to nab the rights:

Just came to follow-up that we just picked up rights to re-release the long out-of-print Bath and Leaving Your Body Map in limited edition CD packages with a few extra never-before-released bonus songs.

Also, the previously never-before-released Part the Second CD.

These will come in limited runs of 250 copies only.

Proceeds from the agreement are going towards funding the final mixing stages of Kayo Dot's new album "Gamma Knife."

Sorry there :) But we found people upset in a handful of places that the CD's were not available.

As far as going broke, not to worry about these.  These will be normal CD prices.  And, the vinyl sets will definitely retain their value.  We are not printing those box sets again.

Best would be to add us on FB or to send us your e-mail address through our webstore.  You'll know either way when they're out.  We'll make an announcement on our FB about all our upcoming releases just after the New Year.

Man, I feel pretty awesome right now. My vinyl bitching attracted the attention of a vinyl propagator. While I respect your whole sales pitch with vinyl (A good deal of maudlin fans tend to be audiophiles, so I know these will sell quite easily), I feel like the whole idea of vinyl appeals to a very limited market. On top of that, maudlin fans in general are a very limited audience. I feel like re-releasing two killer albums exclusively on vinyl is one of the silliest things ever. If they were released on CD, there would be at least a small probability that they would end up getting a slightly wider exposure.

Why not start pushing the cassette tape as a better quality medium right now? Release them both on cassette and tell the audiophiles that the sound quality beats vinyl into the ground. If we're going to keep going in circles with technology, let's just rush it along so CDs can become cool again.

I realized I'm coming off as pretty bitter here, but this whole vinyl movement makes me mildly irritated.

get a turntable.

imo some albums sound better on vinyl. tends to be the more organic ones usually, but i can imagine driver's music being really cool to hear on wax. that being said, i'm happy to hear his music on any format.

I am, from now on, the proud and very happy owner of the Bath/Leaving Your Body Map LP Box Set.
Damn! It took 5 months from when I bought it for it to get here, but I'm as happy as a little idiot at the moment. It just came in and. Wow, I'm at a loss for words. I haven't actually opened it yet, I'm afraid yet very curious at the same time. I'm going to take it to my mom's place tonight, because she has a record player, and I don't.

I'm actually still ambivalent about playing it. You know, with it being one of only 300 copies in the world.
I can not contain this awesomeness and happiness. Sorry for this incoherent post, but THANK YOU BLOOD MUSIC!!!  :)  :)  :)  :hefdaddy
