TAC

They needed to upgrade the dress code.

i/o December

QuotePeter Gabriel: "i/o" album comes this December

More new music next year, no news about live shows
The latest issue of the UK's MOJO magazine has an update on Peter Gabriel's plans. In December, i/o will be released as a "real" (physical) album. Until then, all twelve tracks of the album will be available digitally. It is not yet known which formats will be available. However, the article suggests that all mixes will also be released physically, i.e. all songs in the bright-side mix, dark-side mix and in-side mix. Even though the article dowsn't say anything about the specific release date, we think December 1st is the most likely release date.

"I have facility enough that I can throw down something, and play it, and play it correctly, and play it in time, but that doesn't make good records.  What makes good records for me, is when you capture a performance or you get some feeling that you get on tape and that you know you can't plan for it" -Kevin Gilbert

What a mess. Such a weird way to put an album out.

Right? I'm going to buy the physical, but which mix is this initial release? It's confusing.

This album is constantly being talked about. For over a year now! So I guess Peter is doing something right.

He is getting me and I guess quite a few with me to buy the digital releases and then splurge for a nice physical release as well.

So yeah.... it's working out for him I'm sure

The latest PG newsletter said the physical release will be in December, that's all he said.

I saw him in Chicago and it was probably a Top 5 all time show for me. Almost a perfect night.

Man, I LOVE me some Gabriel, but the whole 'two mixes' thing has really jammed me up.

Why not just pick the version you think best represents the song?

It's such a barrier to entry for me, bc my OCD nature means I will likely want to invest hours listening to each version back and forth in order to compare and understand the differences.

:yeahright

goo-goo

I so want to get the deluxe boxset because the art projections were gorgeous during the I/O songs in this tour.

HOF

Well, I checked the links and there are three different mixes, none of which appear to be the official mix, is that right?

faizoff

So there are 3 mixes from the looks of it,  the 2 CDs are the Bright-side and Dark-side mixes and the Blu-ray has the In-side mixes. That is the lot of them right?

Oh, I feel dumb for thinking "Bright-side" was the name of the guy who mixed it, and that those were alternate mixes. So still, there are 3 mixes and I guess I will end up splurging for the set with all 3, but not sure.

goo-goo

Seems like the in-side mix is the Atmos mix

This is the 2CD+Blu-ray release, featuring both the Bright-Side and Dark-Side stereo mixes across two CDs as well as a Blu-ray with the In-Side Mix (Dolby Atmos). The Blu-ray also contains the 24/96 hi-res stereo Bright-Side and Dark-Side mixes.
The three discs come in an 8panel digi-pack, with obi-strip and 32page booklet.

Oh, I have no use for an Atmos mix, so that's good. I can avoid that one altogether then.

Holy crap! He wants $20.48 USD for shipping for the 2 CD digipack through Bandcamp. I'll wait for Amazon, LOL.

goo-goo

Check Burning Shed and see if you can get a better deal on the shipping. I'm also waiting for an Amazon pre-order since I think I'll splurge for the boxset.

That's around 13$ cheaper that the PG store. Going to try canceling that order to get from Burning Shed.

goo-goo

Anyone hitting one of the remaining PG shows?

faizoff

Got my shipping email from burning shed today, a little earlier than expected, I was thinking that the CD/Blu-ray was shipping in Jan of next year.

HOF

Despite being told it would be delayed until tomorrow, I got my CD this afternoon. Sounds really good so far! There is no way PG did these vocal tracks within the last 10 years though, right? Sounds like Us era vocals. He was much deeper on Scratch My Back and New Blood.

SoundscapeMN

well much of it was written before UP even came out, but whether the vocal recordings on the final mixes were done then? I dunno. I must admit, I didn't watch all of the videos he sent out throughout the year, which maybe he talked about.

otherwise, I wonder if there's a lot about that on the Bluray/DVD.

I don't believe the Blu-ray has any making of videos. It has only the tracks with the 3 mixes. Might listen to this today on streaming, still don't have my order.

I didn't watch those videos either, LOL. And I also avoided most of the songs, which I'm glad about because this is all fresh and interesting to listen to now.

HOF

On about my fourth listen, and I'm getting fewer "this sounds like a young PG vibes" from the vocals. Different songs may have different aged tracks though.

Really great listen, though I'm bouncing back and forth between the Light and Dark-side mixes and not sure which I prefer yet. Realizing this is the first new PG studio album I've heard upon release since I first got into him 21 years ago when I picked up Up on Mike Portnoy's recommendation (pretty sure that was over Thanksgiving, so right about the same time of year).

TheHoveringSojourn808

it's quite good. i think it's earned a place in my top 10 of 2023

i also got into Peter Gabriel around the same time, been a huge fan of him for so long now!
