The 80's Party Thread
« on: September 27, 2010, 09:52:23 AM »
Here discuss and post your favorite songs from the 80's, whether they make you wanna rock or dance or get high.....on life.

I heard "I Ran So Far Away" by A Flock of Seagulls the other day, and totally wanted to throw an oldschool college 80s party for my friends and I. If there is any song that shouts " THE 80S", it would be this one.

The link in my sig has a lot of my faves.  It leans more towards hair bands and the like, but hair bands were an 80's party in themselves.

Probably my favorite 80s song is Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me with Science."
In high school my buddies and I built a Van Der Graaf generator.  You know, to get girls.

Cool the Engines - Boston
Money for Nothing - Dire Straits
Rock of Ages - Def Leppard
Foolin' - Def Leppard
Shout - Tears for Fears
Something About You - Level 42
World Machine - Level 42
Reflex - Duran Duran
Power of Love - Huey Lewis & the News
Working for the Weekend - Loverboy
Addicted to Love - Robert Palmer
I Can't Drive 55 - Sammy Hagar

My playlist of 80s tunes has 337 songs. :coolio

This is basically restricted to songs I grew up on back then, meaning they were fairly big hits and usually had a video that got at least some rotation on MTV back in the day.

Don Henley's "The Boys of Summer" is not only one of my favorite songs of any era, it is my all-time favorite video.

Man I love the 80's.  Here's some of the top of my head;

Tears for Fears - Everybody Wants to Rule the World
Cutting Crew - Died in Your Arms Tonight
Mr. Mister - Broken Wings
Wang Chung - Dance Hall Days
Hall and Oates - I Can't Go For That
Big Country - In a Big Country
Pseudo Echo - A Beat for You
Corey Hart - Sunglasses at Night

Don Henley's "The Boys of Summer" is not only one of my favorite songs of any era, it is my all-time favorite video.

This is by far one of the greatest songs of all time.  The atmosphere of this song is amazing, pure perfection.

Wolf, I love Look Away and Where The Rose Is Sown!!

An excellent band that unfortunately got written off as one hit wonders, they had quite a few good songs.  Excellent Scottish folk.

I saw them on the 7 Wishes tour with Starship opening up.  The weird thing is Starship opened and closed with We Built This City.

Pretty much every song by Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Pretty much every song by Minor Threat.

When I think of the 80's, I think of cheesy new wave music:

Wham!  - Wake Me Up Before You Go Go

The Human League - Don't You Want Me

Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me)

I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

Kansas--Power

I forgot about this song.  I used to listen to this album all the time in High School.  I'm showing my age.

Great tour.  Weird seeing them with no violin player. Steve Morse played the violin parts on the songs.

Can't forget about this 80's cover song.

New Order's Blue Monday

Probably a cliche answer, but I love this song so much. Having said that, I'm still yet to hear anything I didn't like by New Order.

So I watched the show, Chuck tonight and in a very funny scene they played Feed My Frankenstein by Alice Cooper. So I'd thought I'd post the video in this thread!
