I'm a huge fan of RATM. They have loads of great songs like: Calm Like A Bomb, Bulls On Parade, Sleep Now In The Fire, People Of The Sun, Bombtrack and loads more.

I actually think Killing In The Name is of their weakest songs.

Their S/T'ed is still amazing to me.

Wake Up and Freedom are their best songs imo.

Demons and Wizards
Chimaira
Iced Earth
Nine Inch Nails
P.O.D.
Stratovarius (If at all)
Yngwie Malmsteem

EDIT: Most of Dark Passion Play isn't that bad, so Post-Tarja is actually pretty good.

Unfortunately, I do not know that one well enough to comment, so I just stuck to PHM. :)

Pretty Hate Machine sounds so appallingly 80s that it's difficult to get into the music underneath. It's probably my least favorite NIN album.

The Fragile and most of With Teeth kick ass as well, so yeah, Nine Inch Nails being in this thread is wrong, wrong, wrong.

Mika belongs here also I think. I don't listen to a lot of pop but when I do, I'm usually let down by the songs that are not the "singles". Same thing with MGMT (that I mentionned eariler ITT).

I think MGMT have more than one or two good songs, they have about five or six great ones but the rest are kind of forgettable.

Their hits aren't even their best songs, in my opinion, assuming you're referring to songs like "Carry on Wayward Son," "Dust in the Wind," "Point of Know Return," etc.

I only have their first CD, and to me there is 2-3 great songs, a bunch of OK song and the rest is filler.

Oh OK! Someone told me that the first one was better. And it was a female. So I  :blush. And then the birth of thee shall prevent. The colors collapse on the rigid strails, too much blood to handle. At least for today...so let it go, one last time.

Sonata Arctica.  After Ecliptica their songs got really bland.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. Not really. I mean, the point of a genre is to describe the music. What does "Viking" describe musically? I mean, you can link band together lyrically of course but lyrics don't really make a genre.

I mean, compare Amon Armoth to Bathory (Preferably Blood Fire Death) and tell me what you think.

Edit: Here, I'll give you a link of Bathory - A Fine Day to Die

I disagree. It's like comparing Ulver with Stolen Babies. To me Amon Amarth is Viking Metal, and not just because of the lyrics.

Well Ulver made a lot of drastic mutations to their sound (I'm not familiar with Stolen Babies though) but I don't know what you're getting at there. I disagree with the notion of Viking Metal in the same way that I don't consider Speed Metal a genre. Its a tag that isn't really needed. Most bands that are called "Viking Metal" could just as easily be described with another tag just like Speed Metal is really just trad.

They might as well be D&D Metal. They're named after a mountain in Lord of the Rings.
