Does anyone ever secretly hope DT records another song like...
« on: September 25, 2010, 08:56:27 PM »
Well? Do you ever get that feeling? Where you think "I love Dream Theater, but man, I hope they make another song that makes me feel the way [] does!" We probably all have that song. Or maybe we don't.

Anyway, the song that stands out in this regard for me? Innocence Faded. I think there was a quote about how "nobody wants a song that sounds like that anymore." That's ridiculous.

What about you?

Lifting Shadows Off A Dream.  It remains singular.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

YES

Lifting Shadows is amazing and so underrated.

On that note, I would love a song in a similar vein to Space-Dye Vest, but from what I understand most of DT doesn't even like that song so  :sadpanda:

Fat chance though, ever since Petrucci Switched to MM, his sound changed drastically. I miss the Ibanez sound.

Yes, I would like DT to do more songs like the previous ones that I am fond of, and less like the previous ones that I am not fond of.

Just kidding... I would love to hear them make a song like To Live Forever or Surrounded. A song in vein of Caught in a Web would be great too.

If there's going to be a song with the amount of groove that can be found in 6:00, I'd be very pleased.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Blind Faith. It used to make me feel so warm inside, but I inevitably burnt out on it. One of their very best songs, though, no doubt. I'd love to recapture that feeling at some point down the line - not necessarily in a song that sounds quite like it, but just that lush, thick mood.

Agree with this 100%, one of their best and most unique songs.

On a serious note, I'd love to see another song like The Great Debate, Trial of Tears, and Octavarium.

I've never heard ANYTHING about Petrucci recording it with a strat. The only time i've ever seen Petrucci play a strat is some old video of him playing a Suhr I think at the Mesa Boogie booth at NAMM?

His Ibanez's middle pickup position was the inside coils of the two humbuckers, that can easily mimic a strat. Pretty sure the clean part in LITS was in the middle position.

He only recorded the LItS guitar solo with a Strat. The rest was Ibanez.

Serious post time: hearing more groovy tracks like New Milennium, Take the Time, Caught in a Web, and LitS would be so awesome.
