Nick Drake

Anyone else here a fan?  His songs are wonderfully relaxing, and really fun to play on guitar.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2jxjv0HkwM if you haven't heard!

I hope there are some other fans here.

Amazing artist that, like the Buckleys, died too young. I love Pink Moon, but I haven't heard his other two. I shall fix that soon.

You really can't go wrong with Nick Drake, all the songs are beautiful and relaxing.  I played in a little tribute gig a few months ago with a cellist and a pianist... really fun!

Pink Moon is fucking brilliant. Five Leaves Left is amazing as well. Bryter Later is good too, but I don't like it nearly as much. I feel it's a little too over-produced for Nick. Nick Drake sounds best as Nick Drake. Five Leaves Left has the perfect amount of other instruments but Pink Moon is incredible.

I love Nick Drake! I heard From The Morning on that cingular commercial and liked what I heard so I checked out Pink Moon and I love it. His music is really relaxing and so fun to play on guitar. It's a shame he died so young.

Surprised I have never heard him before, considering the stuff I just sampled is the exact kind of music I've been looking for the past few months.

Bump to say that I recently discovered Nick Drake. I would have to say as of now Bryter Layter is my favorite, but everything I've heard is amazing.

I bought Five Leaves Left and Pink Moon yesterday. I've already listened to both three or four times.

The guy is mandatory listening. Everyone with ears should hear him.

Checking in to say that I am absolutely in love with his music. I can't find a single song on any his three albums that I don't LOVE.

That being said, I still think that Bryter Layter is the best one, followed closely by Pink Moon. FLL is still fucking phenomenal though. He is quickly climbing my last.fm charts and I wouldn't want it any other way. There's no other music out there that is like this. Something about it that is just so magical. It's haunting and melancholy, but at the same time it's fun and whimsical. So brilliant.

Nahh I just prefer the fuller band effect that BL employs a bit more than his more Strum and Hum style used on PM.

It's all great music, I just prefer it to be a bit fuller I guess. :hat

EDIT: Also, I think I just came up with that one (Strum n Hum) hahaha

So, I got Bryter Later on 2nd January and today is the first day I haven't listened to it in full since then, and I probably will later. What a brilliant, brilliant album, but I fear, as Quad says, that I won't like the others anywhere near as much, as I enjoy the full band stuff on BL so much.

Pshh.  BL is more layered, sure, but the content of the other two is much stronger as far as melody and lyrics.  Besides, you'll be surprised how much more impressive Drake is when it's just him and a guitar, with the frequent (instead of constant) strings and piano.  Five Leaves Left is fairly layered too, however, so if you still feel like you would rather hear full band then that is the next one to get.  After that you may try Pink Moon and you will appreciate it for it's stripped-down nature.  You will.

Don't get me wrong, I think all three albums are AMAZING, Pink Moon especially, but there is just something so magical about BL to me. It's the only album that's ever had such a tremendous impact on me like it has. I listen to it at least once a day and the day just doesn't feel complete anymore unless I hear it at least once. It's probably the greatest album I've ever heard in my life.

In other news:

Pretty neat, I'll definitely have to check it out when more information is out.

EDIT: Damn, just realized that ND's music is the first thing I listen to when I wake up, and the last thing I listen to before I go to sleep.

So we can expect results in about 20 hours from now? :lol

I finally took the time to hear Family Tree the whole way through, and I'm a better person because of it.  Great collection of songs.  And Time of No Reply is pretty much as strong as any other of his releases.  It's beautiful!

i love Bryter Lyter too. stupidly, i was only introduced to him after watching the Opeth Live at the Royal Albert Hall documentary and how Mikael loved him and how old music and new music he was writing was influenced by the "simplicity". In the right mood - perfect!
