This might be an AWESOME year for Avant-garde metal! The new Polkadot Cadaver is great, obviously the new Unexpect is coming out in two weeks. Also, both Stolen Babies, and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum are supposed to released stuff this year! :tup :metal

EDIT: Diablo Swing Orchestra too!!!
FUCKING SWEET.

Also, DFD are doing reunion gigs :D

Man, I can't get enough of Polkadot Cadaver's latest album.

SO GOOD! My favourite tracks right now are probably: Cake and Eat it Too, Starlight Requiem and Slaughterhouse Striptease.

Bump for recent discovery. Tayobo. They are like...if System of a Down and Mike Patton all collectively had children together.

Surprised this wasn't posted here yet, but here it is for all who haven't heard yet:

Swedish avantgarde metallers Diablo Swing Orchestra have set Pandora's Piñata as the title for its third album, set to be released in the first quarter of 2012.

In a short update on Facebook, the band says: "Ladies and gents, we just finished our last rehearsal before the recordings will begin and we finally agreed on a title: Pandora's Piñata. Album will be released in the first quarter of 2012 so be patient and stay tuned for sneak peaks of what to come!"

I can't really get into DSO properly. They have a few songs I fucking love, but as a whole I get kinda bored by their albums.

Get Leaving Your Body Map if you don't have it already.

Both of Unexpect's albums are excellent.

Grand Opening and Closing by Sleepytime Gorilla Museum.

There Be Squabbles Ahead by Stolen Babies.

Listen to Róka Hasa Rádió by Thy Catafalque.

They aren't talked about here much, but this album is very good and worth a listen, as long as you don't mind listening to lyrics all in Hungarian.

If you don't mind some black metal being thrown into the mix, anything by Sigh. Lots of exciting ideas and experimentations while still remaining surprisingly accessible.

Of Natural History is easily the best Sleepytime album.

Both of Unexpect's albums are excellent.
There are three Unexpect albums and an EP, noob.

Dir En Grey is probably my favorite Avant-Garde Metal band. Uroboros and Dum Spiro Spero.  :heart :heart

With that said, the genre has lots of good stuff. Kayo Dot, Maudlin of the Well and so on.

Sigh is quite easily the best avant-garde metal band around. They have 9 albums and an EP, all of which are awesome. The best starting point is Imaginary Sonicscape, followed by In Somniphobia.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?
