A Kevin Moore thread.

Why has he never played Space Dye Vest at any of his shows? MP always said it was his song.

I'd assume it's because they each associate it with the other.

DT won't play it because they feel it's a KM song.

KM won't play it because he feels it's a DT song.

He's moved on  and done other things, I doubt he even cares about that song anymore.

Because it's with DT, and he want to move on from that era of his life.

Well, there's all that people have said already, and he's only had like, one solo show in Turkey?  Right?

Edit: Out of curiosity, anyone know what he played at that one show in Turkey?

Because he doesn't like it any more than I do.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Yes, Kevin has only played one show that we know about as fans.  It was in 2007 at Balo Stage in Turkey and was originally designed to be a "try out" show with other shows to come in the future.  But that never happened.  Below is the setlist from that show.  We have some fan photos from that show posted under the OSI Photos section of The Mooreatorium, if anyone wants to check them out.

1) Give Up
2) White Robe
3) Mother's Radio
4) Kicking (remix version)
5) Come In Over
6) Pure Laughter
7) Andrew Was Drowning His Stepfather
8) Sad Sad Movie
9) Again Today
10) Get Back In The Car
11) Horseshoes and B52's

I doubt that's raking in the dough.

He probably does random work like most non huge musicians do.

He probably got a pretty penny after Pull Me Under was used in Guitar Hero 4.  He did write the lyrics, after all.

Yeah, I had thought about the publishing he must make from WD&DU/I&W/Awake...

What about stuff like ACOS? He did help write it, correct? And even to a degree elements that were used in SFAM.

And holy shit! His campaign for funding is up to 7,500 dollars with 19 days left! I honestly didn't think he'd reach the 3,000 he needed.

I doubt he makes much money off of anything DT related. I doubt DT even make very much money off of anything DT related, they tour for their money.

Hm. Well, after quitting DT he probably had enough money to live off of for awhile. And then he toured with Fates Warning. And I'm sure he made SOMETHING off of the OSI records. I'm sure he's doing OK. If he lives within his means, he probably doesn't have to do a whole lot of other work.

I understand in the scheme of things its peanuts, but whatever money the other members make from publishing goes back into the band fund. But Kevin's piece would be separate, I imagine (unless he relinquished rights when he left). They have already paid the labels back every dime they owed for a 20 year old album, so any new copies now will show profit. Not much. He might make 3 cents for every new copy that is sold. But it's something.

Yea, as far as we know Kevin is a single guy with no kids, so I'm sure his cost of living is relatively low.  Also, he did two soundtracks for feature films in Turkey, although I'm not sure what that pays.  In the early-to-mid-1990s, he also gave private keyboard and music theory lessons on Long Island.  I wouldn't be surprised if he's done that a few times in Costa Rica and Turkey if he needed extra cash.

I still stick with that he has a job or does random work. If guys in bands like Kamelot, Symph X, Pain of Salvation and so forth still have to work outside of their bands, then so does Kevin Moore.

If they do, it's amongst other types of work.

I never heard any indication that Kamelot had day jobs. Wouldn't doubt it, but I'd be curious to know what they do.

Well I think Youngblood and Roy may make enough money. And I clearly don't know everything about all of them, but I know that Glen Barry (former bassist) ran some kind of....animation studio? Or something like that with his brother.

I think people really overestimate how much musicians make. Sure the big american bands are very well off, but I saw an interview that the singer for Arch Enemy, who sell quite a few records and tour a lot, can't even afford a car. I also saw an interview that Johan, the guitarist for PoS works constantly as a handyman when he's not touring. I'm sure this applies ot a lot of the bands that aren't huge.

Oh, I absolutely understand. My defense for DT lately with uneducated people has been debunking bullshit like "All the DT members are worth millions! There's no reason for them not to wait for Mike to come back." :lol

I was honestly dumb-founded. I pointed out the fact that if that were true, the members WOULD have waited. The truth is they need to get out there and tour. I'm guessing guys like LaBrie or Myung bring in a decent but normal upper class paycheck annually (my guess would be 150,000 or so). Now take into consideration with paying a mortgage and providing for an entire family household.
Now imagine that you would take a severe dip in pay or skip a year entirely. It starts to make a bit more sense.
