Alright, I've almost got it all figured out with this https://connectify.me/

But it wont let me make a WEP encrypted access point, which it SAYS it supports and tells me that my laptop supports.

I'm going to kill everything.

Do you get one of the errors on your DS, one of teh 73101 type errors?

The issue I had, and I have WEP encryption, was easily solved by manually changing the wi-fi settings on my DS. I had to IPCONFIG from my start-DOS prompt. That gave me all the info I needed to manually fill in on the DS. DNS Primary, and all those long three digit sets. The critical part (and I got this from Nintendo) was making sure my DS wasn't automatically assigning all those values especially the IP. From the IPCONFIG screen I took the IP address from my pc (a desktop that was hooked to my wireless router) and added a 10 value to the last three digits. So if my IP address on the IP CONFIG screen was 198.255.255.030 when I put it into the DS's wi-fi settings screen I entered it 198.255.255.040   and for every successive DS I hooked up in my house (three or four total with various generations of machines) I would add another 10 to those final three numbers.
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Happy Lives to you all.

I GET TO PLAY WHITE TODAY! :caffeine:

But first I have to survive one more class and another test. And poopy diarrhea.

Well, maybe not the latter but I just wanted to make it sound harder than it is.

Just bought Black yesterday.  Passed the first gym, trying to find a Blitzle on route 3.  So far Oshawott, Pansear, and Munna are kicking ass and taking names.

Already I really like how:
-the battle screen has finally improved beyond "Your pokemon stay still and bounce or something when they attack."
-The overworld is more 3-D than usual.
-All new pokemon.  This is a great idea.
-The question that NO ONE HAS EVER THOUGHT TO ASK IN A POKEMON GAME BEFORE: Are they really happy with us forcing them into slavery and battling for our own amusement?  Of course, I have a feeling it'll be resolved with "nice trainers do this to form bonds with pokemon!" and it'll be all right.  That and Team Plasma are already proving themselves to be massive dicks despite their noble intentions.

However, I have already found myself grinding endlessly.  That's to be expected at this point.  Just wait until endgame content Matt...

IF MY SCHOOL'S INTERNET WASN'T SO STUPID MAYBE I WOULD.

EDIT: Actually, I think my Nintendo wi-fi USB stick is at home.  I'll try and see if I can get it working today when I go back.

It kinda looks like a flash drive.  Its supposed to be able to get you onto Nintendo Wi-Fi.  https://store.nintendo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=95704&currency=USD&catalogId=10001&tranId=0&lastAction=setCurr&storeId=10001&languageId=-1&categoryId=11157&ddkey=http:SetCurrencyPreference

Only place to get it is used now.

And now I've just caught a Sawk.  I am a very happy man who's about to take down the second gym!

Yep, love every single detail that you've picked up on. All new pokemon was a perfect idea. I want the next region to be based in Europe, and go 100% brand new again. (England would be ideal thanks please Game Freak thanks.) This is absolutely the single best Pokemon game. Everything that could've been bettered has been bettered, and everything that was perhaps starting to get formulaic is exciting-once-more. It feels truly brand new, for the first time since Red and Blue.

Endgame content, however, is the only thing that's disappointed me. Finished the game a little while ago, and it all gets a bit... flimsy, after the credits roll. There's not much worth doing. Getting an unbreakable Ice Beam TM is nice, and there are a handful of legendaries, but I'm kind of just sat around kicking my heels, a bit.

Oh, and it turns out that some of the old-school pokemon were hiding in Unova all along, which totally undermines the concept of all the Pokemon being new and the region being this massive new frontier. Some of them make sense - you can get Kabuto fossils and resurrect them for instance, and there'll eventually be a dream world, so I'm not against the idea of being able to use old school pokemon. It's just the fact that it makes no sense, and really saps away the charm of how wonderful and new everything was. And, on that note, why - if wild Drifblim have been native to one of the routes in eastern Unova all this time - are they not in the Unova Pokedex? I love Drifblim - it's one of my favourite pokemon - but it's got no business being in Unova whatsoever.

Everything else is perfect, though. 10/10 for the plot. Closer to a five for the aftermath. Maybe even four if I'm being harsh. There's nothing wrong with it, though. Just a tad on the barren side, and not entirely sensibly thought out.

tbh I'm glad that you can get other pokemon after the game ends so you can trade your super amazing skullfuckers from DPPt to BW.

As for TMs being reusable, what's really the point of HMs now?  They can be used outside of battle, but they're harder to forget?  Might as well just make them TMs.

I'm guessing the main reason is so they are compatible with old games or something.

I'm glad you can get them... but I think it's awful that they're available in the wild, and totally takes away from the charm of the world they were building.

A safari zone would make sense, as they could've been imported from other regions. There are certain locations in the game that do make sense, as there's backstory to how the pokemon at a particular landmark arrived in Unova in the first place. The Dream World makes sense as the pokemon you can catch through that are hallucinations that are made corporeal. But a Drifblim on Route Somethingorother just plain shouldn't be there. There's a whole cave full of Graveler and Golbat for no reason whatsoever, too.

The point of HMs is to prevent you from accidentally getting yourself stuck. If you were to level up on an island in the middle of the sea, and accidentally deleted Surf in order to make way for the new move, you could be stuck on that island forever and have to restart the game if you didn't have the HM. (Which is possible, through trading etc.)

Dig, Flash, Teleport, Rock Smash, etc. have been designed never to be 100% essential, however (and I don't think Rock Smash is even a field move any more), so they're left deletable.

I've got both, but I don't know if my internet connection works on campus. Don't think it does. I can download Mystery Gifts but can't do Random Matchup, for instance, so I probably won't be much help. If you still need 'em by the time I'm back home (which I am a lot of weekends) I can send them across, though.

I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

Not too long. I seem to remember it being after visiting a place called the dream yard - which I think you go to before the first gym, though it could plausibly have been just after.

Cool, thanks! I'll be starting my game in like an hour, so I'd say I'll have my friend code by sometime tomorrow then. :tup
