Does Giga Impact have the same 1 turn penalty too?

Good point.

Yes it has.

Also I started EV training my pokemons, shit is hard yo'.
I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

Step 1: Get EV increasing items like Macho Brace or the Power items.
Step 2: Find a friend with a pokerus pokemon or endlessly search for one.
Step 3: Kill what you need to.
Step 4: Profit and pokerape.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and vitamins.  Basically, you're going to be spending a ton of time at the battle tower.

It's worth it when you see a little 10 year old crying after you butt-raped his team with an EV trained Electrivire.

The fuck is this doing on page 2?

Right, team comparisons. What are everyone's main teams?

As of right now...

1. Torterra (Earthquake / Crunch / Synthesis / Razor Leaf)
2. Rampardos (Rock Slide / Earthquake / Zen Headbutt / Head Smash)
3. Honchkrow (Wing Attack / Haze / Dark Pulse / Night Shade)
4. Alakazam (Psychic / Recover / Shock Wave / Shadow Ball)
5. Golduck (Surf / Amnesia / Psych Up / Zen Headbutt)

It's generally a team of five, the sixth is more ad hoc - I'll either use the final slot for HMs, a particular type, or training. When I beat the Elite Four I used a Snorlax, with Giga Impact / Block / Rollout / Crunch, which is a fairly poor moveset, but it was in place more as an excuse to give me a chance to heal the rest of my team, and maybe sneak in the odd Giga Impact before switching out.

Not entirely sure about my movesets in general. Quite a lot of psychic moves, quite a lot of dark moves, two earthquakes (although EQ's one of the strongest moves, so you know) and a handful of weaker ones. Wing Attack and Razor Leaf in particular are attacks that I've settled for, rather than opted for.

That's my current Soul Silver team, by the way. Was originally a Diamond team, but I decided to adopt them when I made the progression, and they've kind of remained where I left them.

Quite interested to see what everyone else's teams look like. They definitely say something about people - it's just hard to tell precisely what.

Meanwhile, on Diamond...

1. Infernape (Flame Wheel / Swords Dance / Close Combat / Mach Punch)
2. Drifblim (Fly / Shadow Ball / Shock Wave / Explosion)
3. Skuntank (Slash / Toxic / Night Slash / Flamethrower)
4. Bronzong (Extrasensory / Iron Defense / Confuse Ray / Gyro Ball)
5. Gastrodon (Surf / Recover / Ice Beam / Mud Bomb)
6. Tangrowth (Mega Drain / Stun Spore / Psych Up / Swagger)

Tangrowth in particular needs work, however fond I am of Psych Up. Really like the first four, though. 'Specially Drif, Skun and Bronz. Gastrodon would be good without Mud Bomb. I think as a general rule, I go for pokemon which are fairly strong, but not conventionally strong. A little bit offbeat. Like Rampardos, thoroughly vulnerable but with an enormous attack stat. Or the ridiculously sluggish yet defensively impeccable Bronzong. I don't go for the strongest pokemon so much as the bizarre-but-capable ones. Don't like to duplicate types, either.

(I'm getting back into Pokemon again - can you tell? Think it's 'cause I'm really excited for Black and White.)

Well I played Black for about 3 hours last night. It's been pretty well patched with the language, except all the naming of stuff is still the Japanese alphabet so who knows what I called myself. I like user interface, it's nice, similar to platinum I guess. I prefer the heart gold where the bottom screen is always "up" rather than callled up pressing x. I received my mystery gift too...some blue snot drooling level 15 ice/water pokemon that naturally won't listen to me. The new 3D~ish aspect is ok too...different but not TOO different to turn true pokemon people right off. As with most pokemon games a LOT of talking in the beginning but it's progressing.
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

This is for leafgreen, the party I used to beat the elite 4.

Venusaur
Pidgeot
Butterfree
Raticate
Primeape
Gyrados

Not the best party but I beat the elite 4 with it. I just decided to go with the first 6 pokes I collected and run with that. I'm definitely gonna shake some stuff up now though. Right now I'm building up my Dragonair into a Dragonite. At level 39 right now, so only 16 levels to go! Butterfree sucks and I'll replace either Raticate or Primeape with a good trapper since I'm canning Butterfree for my Dragonair. Thinking Raticate will go since I mostly keep it for Super Fang/Hyper Fang combo but I'd rather get a fire or lightning type in my party instead. I also really want a really good psychic on my team but want to avoid using legendaries since Mewtwo is too easy to spam  :lol

Speaking of Mewtwo, I actually caught Mewtwo without a master ball! Took me god knows how long, but fuck yeah!  :metal

Anyway, on leafgreen what are the best leveling spots besides the elite 4?

A good team should have the following:

Fire
Water/Ice
Flying
Electric
Rock/Ground/Steel
Psychic/Dark/Ghost/Dragon

And of course you should get mixed pokemon, as the movesets are more diverse

You can pretty much skip Bug and Grass. They're way weaker than most of the others (although that Venusaur looks good)

Normal is alright if you have good moves. Fighting as a type I usually leave out, as most of my pokemon can learn some fighting moves.

I dunno, I'm not sure there are any genuinely bad types. Most important thing is just to get coverage. Fighting and ground pokemon are probably best for that. Ice attacks are devastating too, but ice pokemon don't actually resist anything except themselves, so it's a bit of a risky type.

I think it's always a safe bet to have a psychic type. Psychics are good. Reliable. And Electrics make up for their generally low defense stats by having only one weakness, and by the fact that most of them can be taught Magnet Rise by the move tutor. One of the new ones actually has levitate, leaving it with no weaknesses whatsoever. And I call this one "my favourite."

Bugs aren't inherently bad, they've just drawn the short straw with the game designers. For some reason, they seem to have decided that bugs are cursed to blossom in the early game, and then sort of fade into obscurity. This is set to change with the next game though, with some genuinely tough little blighters. One of which doesn't evolve until about level 59, putting it on par with some of the titans. Scizor, Heracross and Yanmega are all fairly good, though. I've got a feeling bugs are going to become a little more essential, with Black & White. Which is good, 'cause I like bugs.

As a general rule, I don't think there are any particularly crucial types. Psychic comes closest, with Ground not far behind. There aren't many reasons not to have a Psychic pokemon around.

Personally, I feel the most useful types/move types to have are:

Ghost-Because psychics can be crafty little buggers.
Ice-Because dragons are dicks.
Fire-Oh bai steel.
Water-Oh bai fire.
Fighting-Whats that Blissey?  You want to get punched in the face?  You too, Snorlax?
Grass-The threat of Swampert alone is enough to teach Energy Ball or Grass Knot to someone.
Electric-No more water or flying types.

Getting a Spiritomb or Sableye would be worth it if only because they have NO weaknesses. Amazing

Ghost and ice are definitely two of the most crucial attacking types. I think it's fairly important to have Shadow Ball and Ice Beam on more or less every single team. Dragon's reliable, too, though it's not actually strong against anything except dragon. It's only resisted by steel, which is fairly rare as a type, so it's good to have.

Ghost, ice, fighting, ground. That takes out a hell of a lot of pokemon on its own.

Incidentally, there is no pokemon which resists dark, fighting and psychic. Find a pokemon capable of all three, and it can deal damage to more or less anything. ...Then again, finding a pokemon capable of using all three types well is easier said than done.

...Lucario?

Getting a Spiritomb or Sableye would be worth it if only because they have NO weaknesses. Amazing
Only problem is that Sableye's stats are gash. Spiritomb's a good laugh, I've got one myself and quite like it, but apparently it's not highly rated.

Now Shibirudon, on the other hand. Good type, good stats, good movepool, and no weaknesses. Looking forwards to finding one of them.

Electric's only weakness is ground. Which it is immune to, 'cause of levitate, leaving Shibbything devoid of weaknesses.

Save for Gastro Acid / Gravity / similar, of course. But then Spiritomb can be hit for super-effective damage by a pokemon with Scrappy. Or Odor Sleuth. Or Foresight.

my son beat Red in Soul Silver...little bugger. With a handfull of 60's, 70's and his big Gollem in the 90's. He was a bit let down by the fact that nothing really changes after you beat him. "THE END"...and a couple more Legendaries became available.

I was happy for him, but I couldn't help but be a tad jealous of my 7 year old. Here I am with all my 70-80's flying/psychics getting my ass handed to me by Red. Sigh.

So I've moved onto Black n White for now.....

Question about EV's. Is it possible to know how many you have for a pokemon or not? I'd hate to start EV training only to find out I've used up all possible EV's anyway  :|

How's Black and White so far?  :omg:
