I chose Charmander about 70% of the time. Bulbasaur 25% and squirtle the remaining 5%.

I meant more like, 60% of people choose Squirtle, 30% choose Charmander, and 10% choose Bulbasaur.

Someone should make a survey. And I'm talking about their first choice.

Make a new thread with a poll. I'm sure a lot of people here played the games.

Charmander is the only way to go. I'd get Lapras for water and I don't need a grass type. But Charizard is one of the best fire pokemon out there.

Squirtle and Bulbasaur for pokedex.

Always went with Squirtle in my old Red version.  Went with Squirtle when I bought LeafGreen (the game responsible for getting me back on the wagon).  I'd still pick Squirtle.  I would always use Ninetales as my fire-type and never really needed grass attacks.  In 4th (soon to be 5th gen), Swampert has changed my thinking about grass types/attacks significantly.  As in, "have grass or get swamped to death."

I usually chose Squirtle/water types.

With SoulSilver, it was the first time I chose otherwise; the fire one.

With Black and White, im going to go grass since A). I've never used a grass starter, and 2). I really dont like the other ones.

I just hate its last form since it literally has nothing to do with the first two forms. It looks like their trying to be legendary's or something, and we definately have enough of those.

Gen 1- MOTHERFUCKING CHARMANDER
Gen 2- BADASS TOTODILE FUCK YEAH!
Gen 3- eerrr Mudkip...
Gen 4- What the fuck... Chimchar
Gen 5- FUCKING TSUTARJA ALL THE WAY
As you can see I'm not a big fan of G3 & G4 starters but i'm really looking forward to use the grass snake I havent been this excited since Gen 2.
Oh and Pokabu, I'm disappoint(Fuck you GF)
I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

I've only played Heart Gold and started with what I guess is the grass one..from what I read it was the weakest choice and made for the hardest game play. I didn't read that until after I was too far along to switch. But I certainly didn't find it all that hard. I had to level up a tad more but none of the badges seemed all that tricky.
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

No the levels of the pokemon in HG/SS are frighteningly low. It's hardly a challenge. Usually I play with Cyndaquil, but occasionally I'll go with Chikorita. I hardly ever choose Totodile

Gen 1 - Fire, almost always
Gen 2 - I've gone fire and water, but I prefer water
Gen 3 - I don't even remember, I don't think I ever beat it either
Gen 4 - Only played through once, went with water

I have no idea what I'll do for the next game. I haven't really checked out the stats of any of them, and I don't want to. I also just barely skimmed through the pokemon list. I don't care if I'm a little spoiled, but I'd rather play through and experience it all for myself.

Gen 1-Squirtle first, then picking the other starters on replays.
Gen 2-Totodile.  He was my favorite of the new starters when I was a kid.
Gen 3-Mudkip.  Swampert's a beast, Sceptile looks boring, and Blaziken is nearly useless since it's outclassed in every way by....
Gen 4-Infernape.  Chose him first because I was warned that the only other fire type was Ponyta.  When Platinum came out and I knew I could catch a Houndoom, I went with Piplup.  Torterra bores me.
Gen 5-Going with Tsubarja (the snake).  First time I'll go for a grass starter first, and its one of the first starters since Gen 2 where all the forms look related to each other.  I thought about going with Mijumaru (the otter), but its final form looks weird as hell, though it does have a nice base stat spread.  Pokabu (pig) may be the worst fire starter, nay, the worst starter in general, ever.  ENOUGH WITH THE FIRE/FIGHTING STARTERS ESPECIALLY WHEN THIS ONE SUCKS GRATUITOUS AMOUNTS OF ASS COMPARED TO INFERNAPE.

I think Japan has already done several of them. I have a buddy with a mew because he has a Japanese version. That site is virtually never wrong, I am assuming it to be legit.

Dunno what you mean by boxes, but ribbons are things you attain by completing certain goals (the easiest being beating the Elite 4 for the Champion Ribbon). You get ribbons for contests and things too. The premier ribbon prevents you from trading the pokemon it's attached to over the Global Trade Station, but you can still trade between friends.

Wonder Cards you receive by doing events through Nintendo. For every event you do, you get a Wonder Card. However, you can only have 3 Wonder Cards at a time. The Wonder Cards need to be kept until you 'complete' an event. Say you downloaded the special Pichu from Gamestop, but can't actually do the actions required (battling in Ilex Forest) until later. The next time you start your game, you can complete the event. Deleting the Wonder Card rids the processes leading to the event though. So make sure you complete an event before you delete a Wonder Card.

Also, the Mew event was confirmed on Serebii. I know what I'm doing when I get home on Friday :metal

Well, this gift is through Nintendo Wi-Fi. Assuming you have a Wireless connection at home, just set up Nintendo WiFi on your game. And I think Mystery Gift is already available from the start on HG/SS. If all that's good, you head to the mystery gift option at the start menu for HG/SS, and it'll prompt you for Nintendo WiFi. Once you're connected there, there will be an option to receive the Mew. Choose that option and it'll be downloaded to your game. It will save and I think you'll have to restart your game. Once you restart you head to the nearest Pokemart, and a man in red or green will be there to give you your gift of Mew!!

I'm not sure if Mew is included in the Johto Dex. If it isn't, you can't receive it until you have the National Dex. I'll double check on that though

Gotchya.

As I've only recently moved onto the second half of the game, I find it fascinating which pokemon are bettter/tougher for fighting different battles.

for example.
My son had a level 70 Golem, a level 40 Togetic, level 40 Meganium, and his Lugia(the SS big one). He absolutely smoked the champion at the end of the Elite 4...mostly using his Golem and stone edge. Almost on his first run through.

I on the other hand. Had a level 74 Togetic, 55, Ho Oh, 55, Meganium, 50 Steelix, 55 Gyrarados, and another in the 50's.....and the dragons of the champion just kept destroying me. I had to borrow his Golem to beat them.

grr....
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Ice pokémon work best against Lance. Get a Swinub in the Ice Cave and train it up to LV50-55 (while evolving it into Piloswine), and it'll work wonders.
