Some of them (like, 10) are really cool. But for the most part, these pokemon look like balls

FUCK
I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

a question on trading.
how does this happen EXACTLY.

I got my son and myself set up with friend codes.
we get in the same little wi fi club room...we talk...or I got to the computer and request a trade he accepts...or we say we'll do voice chat..but do we actually talk or just type stuff? It seems we get hung up and occasionally get an error code 80439. Nintendo says that's an occasional network issue.

also...(if I get that cleared up) can I trade big leveled pokemon to my son for crappy little ones? I wanted to give him one of my higher leveled ones to help him walk through the game a bit quicker. Can I do that?

I don't know about the technical issue, but there's no reason you can't trade lower level pokemon for higher level pokemon. Also, if you and your son are in the same room, you don't need to use Nintendo WiFi to trade. there's a sort of local setting to

Hmm....ya...I had to get him on wi-fi for him to get a friend code. Which I did.

but we were in different towns....hmm..perhaps the same room in the same town eh?

We'll tinker some more and see what happens.

I promise I won't give him a MagicCarp.....

Just saw the generation V Pokedex. I am sorely unimpressed with the lack of creativity Game Freak is starting to show. You can tell from the WTF designs that they're running out of ideas.

I MEAN COME ON AN ICE CREAM POKEMON?! "Oh, I want to evolve my Pokemon now. I SHOULD PUT A SECOND SCOOP ON IT!"

pulled off my first two trades.
Traded my son my Level 41 Onyx holding a steel coat..so that when he got it(he gave me a level 6 Pidgey-he just started), it promptly evolved into a Steelix. He then traded it back to me(because damnit! I wanted it back) so I gave him a level 32 Graveler so he'd have a pretty good leveled pokemon amongst his level 10's and 12's. Well....the graveler I sent him(from my box) promptly evolved into a Golem......which he refused to give back!!!

I don't have a golem yet.

*sniff*

my son is 7.

Seriously, the idea of a "darker, more realistic" pokemon universe is a damn good one.

Wouldn't it be a damn good marketing decision to make some of the games more appealing to people who grew up with the earlier Pokemon and still enjoy the games.

Yeah. I was thinking a Pokemon game with basically same mechanics, except with much deeper story. Conspiracies, betrayals, etc. Something that makes characters more appealing. Because what I noticed in pokemon games is that the characters don't leave a lasting appeal to you, exception being Red, Blue, and maybe Oak (and basically everyone featured in anime, which I do not watch).

And the only reason they had a lasting appeal on us is because we were young.  :-\

I wonder what the actual percentages of the players' choices are. I chose Charmander, but it always seemed like Squirtle was the huge majority.
