The 7th gen starters are all really great, even Fire. And from what I've heard, it's going to be Fire/Dark, not Fire/Fighting as its appearance implies.

If that's true that only cements my decision to pick Litten.

That said I was very much unimpressed with the demo. Just hit every wrong note for me.

I dislike the third form of all three of this generation's starters. It's even worse than Gen V, which at least had Serperior.

As far as starters go, I = IV > II > VI > III > V > VII.

That said I was very much unimpressed with the demo. Just hit every wrong note for me.

Care to expand on this? Aside from Ash Greninja, I love all of the gameplay changes from ORAS, which is already the best Pokemon game to date mechanically.

Ash Greninja, the stupid little dance to do a z move, wasn't thrilled with the menu, don't like being able to see effectiveness of moves in the menu, don't like how gimmicky they seem to have made the region.

I highly disagree with the bolded. The battle menu had a bunch of new features, particularly the ability to check the status/typing of all Pokemon on the field and an easier way of accessing move description pages. There are numerous changes, some subtler than others, all of which I believe to be for the better.

Now that you mention it, the gimmicky elements are worrying. At this point, I hope that GF wanted to show off the new features in the demo, and that they won't be as prevalent in the full game.

Required memorization doesn't make a game fun, not that I ever really had a problem with type effectiveness.

It's not the fact that it shows the effectiveness itself that bothers me, really. It's what it shows about Gamefreak's priorities when they made this game. My biggest problem with XY was that the single player campaign was so easy. This change makes me worry we once again will see Elite 4 members without a full party and a Champion whose pokemon all suck and can be one-shot.

I demand Cynthia level difficulty.

Do you play with Set Battle Style? It doesn't let you switch after fainting an enemy Pokemon, and requires you to be more careful with your team design and switches.

I didn't mind XY being easy; my issues are the poor story, which is a huge step down from the deeper-than-usual story of BW, and the barren post game. I view the single player mode as the stuff you finish to reach the real game - post-game battle facilities, catching 'em all, and multiplayer battling - so the low difficulty was not a concern of mine.

I mean, multiplayer is the main draw for me, too. I just wish that building competitive pokemon didn't make the champion a joke.

I'm pretty sure I got to a point where I could take out 90% of the E4 and Champion with only Chandelure.

I'd be more hooked if I didn't obsess over perfecting super training for all pokemon, but i load up the game, look at all the empty EVs, and I'm just uuuugh this will take me hours and hours and close the game

I'm not that deep into it but I did spend nearly an hour soft-reseting to get a starter with Adamant nature.

I was happy enough with my mudkip having a neutral nature. But Super Training takes an annoyingly long amount of time

Really? Super Training is one of the slowest method of EV training. Assuming that you are fully set up, Hoard Training takes less than 15 minutes per Pokemon, and you can train more than one at once if you handle it intelligently.

You use Sweet Scent to fight 5 Pokemon at once, and knock them all out with a single move such as Earthquake. Certain routes only have hoards that reward EVs in one specific stat. With a Power item and Pokerus, you can earn up to 50 EVs (10 in the stat of the hoard and 40 in the stat of the Power item) in a single battle. It only takes 5 hoards, plus a single round of Super Training for the final two points, to fully EV train a stat. Spreads more complicated than 252/252/6 require some planning, but it's otherwise a really fast and easy EV training method.

Pokerus

 :rollin

Dude, I'm just playing the game like a normal person, the last time I has a pokemon with pokerus was in pokemon gold many years ago, that hasn't happened since and I play pokemon quite a bit. It's SO rare

Typically I go with the fire starter but I'm intrigued by the grass starter since it has a ghost type in the final evolution. That being said if Chandelure is in the game I'll need to rethink.

Typically I go with the grass starter, but only because it's usually the underdog. I'll be choosing fire this time around.

I'll be choosing Water, because it is the only one to have a decent design for its final form.

Aside from that, Mimikyu is goddam adorable, so I'll definitely be using one of those. I'll wait until I get the game to decide upon the rest of my team.

I was an idiot and left my 3DS at college, so I can't play until after Thanksgiving break. I got Sun, and can't wait to begin.

I'm loving the Graphics. Finally took them a long time to have the entire game in 3D. It's nice seeing the Pokemon move on their own.

I don't mind the Grooming. But then I barely started since I had bought a new 3DS and had to set it all up. Which took quite a while.

I'm enjoying this way more than X&Y. Once I get halfway, I'll see if it'll surpass Johto. O haven't enjoyed playing a Pokemon since.
