IMO , saying Petrucci has no feel is like saying Myung only ever plays root notes.
He ALMOST does, at the end of Metropolis, I think.  ;D

How can you measure one's emotion anyway? Well there's clearly a difference between Kirk Hemmet and Eric Clapton, but I don't understand how you can possibly say Gilmour puts more emotion than Petrucci in any way. Just because he makes a better orgasm face? Because he takes years to pick another note? Some people are just less expressive. (Forgive my exaggeration, PF fans)

Good post. I've been saying the same thing for years.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Yeah. Actually, I *almost* stopped following Mike on facebook. But then I remember when I saw him at the Transatlantic concert, and he saw me singing along and smiled right at me (I was like 6 ft away from his kit all night).  He's just still such a cool guy. I can't let all the recent shit take away the great memories he's given me.

It means he lifted 300lbs (or roughly 135kg).

Man, I haven't been on the forum for a while now, and I actually came to realize about Portnoy leaving through a coworker. I was kind of shocked.
But since I've been reading all these Petrucci posts, I feel at ease. The man is so genuinely humble it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Such a rarity nowadays. So refreshing.

I think he might be the new main face of the band. But I see JR and JLB making equal public appearances. JR has already been doing this heavily the last 2 years now.

latest twitter:

"A 16 n-p-second scale session and a heavy leg workout makes for the perfect day!"

so.. he's now shredding through scales at only 16 nano*pico seconds, that's kinda intimidating. :eek Also, he seems to be focusing a lot on working out his legs recently, what is he up to?!?
