I think someone mentioned it earlier, but I am a fan of DT, not solely MP. Losing a part of the sum sucks, and I like a lot of what MP does in side-projects and some of his contributions to DT, but I am even more excited as to what a fresh perspective can bring to the band. And the deletion of someone who seemed to take a lot of control over the writing process. Just really interesting/exciting to see this unfold musically.

Kev, that's hardly fair on the rest of us. If you guys want to believe in some kind of hidden agenda or conspiracy then go ahead, but don't rag on the rest of us just because we're being less cynical about it.

Okay, I understand where you are coming from, but it is not like I think there is a hidden agenda or conspiracy; I just think there is a lot more going on than what we know right now, but some are taking everything that has been said at face value and acting like that is the end-all be-all of what has happened, as if there is nothing more to it.  I am sorry, but I just don't buy that.

Yup.  I would think this is pretty obvious.  It's painfully naive to think that you've been given the whole story, just as it's overly cynical to make it into a giant conspiracy.

-J
Depends what you mean by "whole story".

If you mean we haven't been given all the details, then of course that's true, but I can't see why it's a problem. MP's has said that he felt the 2-year cycle and personal relationships had become stale within the band, which is why he wanted a break. Ok there's no detail about why he felt those things had become stale, but does there need to be?

And if you mean that he and the band are lying and hiding something like a major falling out, then... well, I don't know what to say really. But there isn't anything to suggest that it's the case, so I'll just assume you're crazy conspiracy theorists.

I've never undestood why musicians aren't allowed m
uch privacy. A lot of fans tend to think that if they are fans of a musician or band, then that band or musician, for some reason owes that person certain explanations such as why a member leaves. It's not our business in the end, and while it would be great to know every detail, we aren't righted to do so, it's just an added bonus if they offer it. What the band does is their own business, and if they don't feel the need to tell us, then so be it.

but as DT fans we expect to know every little detail, that's part of the fun of being a DT fan

Right.  We don't have all the details, and of course there's a possibility that everything didn't go down exactly the way it was portrayed.  That doesn't mean there was a huge falling out that's being hidden from us.

so I'll just assume you're crazy conspiracy theorists.

They're celebrities to some extent, so I understand some fans' desire to know every little detail (though I don't share it).  But I totally agree that they don't "owe" anybody explanations or anything.  If they want to keep the details to themselves, they should.

It's not that I don't understand fans desires to know as much as possible, in fact I share it. I, however, don't understand the idea that the band somehow owes it to us.

I guess it has something to do with "We pay for the music, you won't be there without us, we have to know what we want" type of thinking.

I think they are alllowed privacy. Nobody's making them say anything they don't want to. We're just interested. Of course we are. They've made something that they've done something brilliant and we're chomping at the bit to find out as much as we possibly can hope to. If we've got a direct link with the musician - or even an indirect one - we'll want to drink the well dry if we can.

That's what fans do. Fanatics. They've got an interest. The musicians are in charge of a keg of information. They can release the tap as little or as much as they want to, but we'll still want the rest of the barrel.

They're entitled to all the privacy they want! They don't owe us anything! But we'd like it very much if we can have a bit more if there's any chance thanks please and thank you.

BTW, the Collins comparison works even less because Phil Collins not only can sing, but also play piano:

Borlag's final flame out was impressive.

You don't know the half of it.  :lol  I halfway wish I could share with you some of what went on after he left here.

Man, I wish I would have been conscious of all that stuff. I was just a relatively n00bish member who would post time to time, and then noticed one day when I tried to log in it was gone. I think it was somewhere around the time Octavarium came out.

In fact, I didn't even know about this place before the split with 5/8. I completely was unaware of that aspect of the history. I went right from DT official to DTF.org.

MP's official facebook page says that he is the current drummer of A7X.

That reads kind of funny, because I thought he was just helping them out. Maybe I'm just reading it the wrong way.
