Wow, took them long enough, but a blabbermouth poster finally had a great comment.

Which will be a step in the direction of Pirate Metal with John Petrucci doing background bear growls. Hot damn, I can't wait.

I find it pretty funny that when BC&SL came out I made a topic saying that Mike was hitting a mid-life crisis. You guys ALL flamed me and treated me like a fool, but now I see people agreeing with me?

Another thing is his dad just died... I am sure that even magnified the fact that he is getting older...

I wonder if TBOT was not only just about his dad.  Hmmm.....

I do remember someone, though I don't know who, when MP first hit the road with A7X, that he might end up leaving DT. I thought that was pretty far fetched, but whoever that was is apparently wise beyond his years. This may have already been mentioned, but I just learned about this yesterday afternoon and didn't really have time to sift through 25 pages of posts. Much of what I might say in the next few days could be redundant due to that, so please be understanding with me.

Don't take that song out of context. The (little and poor) imagery that song has clearly adduces to a paternal love.

Dear God and A Piece of Heaven are good. They are virtually the opposite of everything else they play. (Not that I don't enjoy their music, but it's no comparrison whatsoever to DT.)

Their drumming seems to have improved recently, but the answer to your question is "no".

I can't believe this is happening. No more Mike = no more DT for me.
OK, bye.  Sorry you wouldn't stay.

Y'know what? It's irritating shit like this that made me shy away from this forum in the first place. Clearly you post too much as it is seeing as you're nearing 20,000.  :omg:  Got life? I would expect more from a moderator. You clearly represent less. Good to know that you can make off handed remarks at another's expense. And I'm not just talking about my remarks either. I read what you say elsewhere and I'm quite underwhelmed. I guess anyone can moderate... right?

Apparently some of you aren't blown away by the magnitude of Mike leaving the band so you just laugh it off and make mind numbing comments that add nothing to this thread. That's okay. It'll eventually hit you when you realize that this band will be crushed without it's rock. It's creator. It's centerpiece.

Yes, I know that he's not the only member. Each member of this band is a stellar performer and there's no doubt about that. But finding a drummer at the level that Mike has maintained over these years is going to be nearly impossible. HA! What are they going to do? Offer Neil Peart a spot? Bozzio maybe? Not gonna happen. DT, as I have known them since I&W, is done. They may go on with whomever. But no Mike, no DT for me. It's been a great ride. Time to get off.

I just heard about this today.  With the news came a great deal of shame regarding how crumby of a fan I've been over the last year or so.  I've had a love affair with DT for about 12 years now.  BCSL should arrive on my doorstep tomorrow sometime.  Also, I just registered here.  This is my first, and likely my last post.  I just wanted to express how I feel.  I'm not trying to talk smack, but .... ...  ..

It feels like Optimus Prime just woke up one morning and decided to join the Decepticons, complete with a kneeling before Megatron ceremony.  That's the best analogy that I can come up with.  As upset as I am, I wish the best for both Mr. Portnoy, as well as what remains of Dream Theater, my favorite band in the world.

Just for future reference, trying to make an objective argument about how Portnoy is Dream Theater while you have a picture of him and 'Mike Portnoy > God' in your sig is going to be a hard sell.

Hef may have been nice, considering he was the one who's comment was in question he might have felt there was a conflict in interest in banning you. I however, hold no such grudges, so like Hef I say goodbye, but when I say good day... I SAID GOOD DAY.

On a serious note this user took something way out of context (Hef was simply saying that if he didn't want to participate then don't participate) and attacked a moderator in the process, and frankly with things as hectic as they are right now we don't need that here.
