That's hilarious.

Makes me wonder though: What if this twitter account actually belongs to a Mike Portnoy? Then MP is screwed.

I'm not sure anyone else has said this, but it's going to be bizarre hearing a DT album without Melody Master Snares and Max Staxx cymbals. Maybe the new drummer will make his own cymbal stacks, but the melody master has become such a signature of their sound.

That's a good point.

I've never even thought about the snare.. so whatever..but the stacks are used all over the place. The new drummer will have to find a way to compensate for those.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

Yeah, I have no idea what that means. I've never been a huge fan of MP's snare sound, though.

Just saying, the Max Stax are commercially available, and a lot of drummers use them now.

I once did a meet & greet and am now so happy I managed to see them in the original formation. I was so nervous about giving JP Priest to sign that I didn't really talk to MP and I actually kinda overlooked him in a way that may have come off almost arrogant. I had a regret about this all the time and now it's come to haunt me again. :'-(

One of the positives that Mike's departure brought however: Dream Theater music sounds now so fresh again, I'm all drowning in listening to their songs.

"We are closer than ever" or Maybe not that much

After this event didn't you notice this? Mike always said in the interviews that they were closer than ever, that their recordings were working like they always wanted... but now that he's gone, it maybe wasn't so? He was the spokesman and he always wanted to portray a good image of the band, right? But there's so much dust you can pull below the rug...

Do you think that the rest of the guys weren't that happy as we were told? Or that they indeed were that happy and closer than ever, that they decided to continue with or without MP?

Discuss.

I think the guys a few years ago had just decided that fighting Mike as the leader was not worth it and because he is an OCD workaholic why not let him take the reins, but since Score I beleive maybe they were not so happy with his heavy musical imput. it seems that as Mike's latest tastes goes as does the sound of the DT album (at least major portions of it) That is not to say they wanted him out in anyway, but now that opportunity presented itself the rest of the guys appear to have a renewed spark and I would bet the next album is much more collaborative.

opposite for me. I would love to see a drummer with less material around him, who instead focuses more on the rhythms themselves than on the drum sound.
I always have to think of Paul Geary, Extreme's first drummer, who had a bass drum, a snare, hihat and a crash. And he left nothing to be desired.

I jumped at MP's recent Facebook post that started with "I'M BAAAAAAAACK!"

But it turns out he was referring to his Facebook being up and running again.

I'm assuming they are trying to figure and sort their lives out before they say something that they might have to contradict again in the future.

GUYS HAVE YOU NOTICED THAT THE NEW MP TWITTER STILL HAS HIS BIRD WITH THE MAJESTY SYMBOL IS HE COMING BACK BECAUSE OF THAT???????????

But seriously, I'm a little bit skeptical about the new sound stuff. Petrucci has been DT's main lyricist over the last albums so I think the lyric area of DT will stay a little bit of the same...
