I think it's just a matter of when the albums came out.  Most people who owned Rush on vinyl had been following them since the 70's, and when Rush got into the synths in the 80's, it didn't work for everyone.  So those are the ones which tend to show up as used vinyl.  People who got into Rush in the 80's, at least as long as vinyl was still around, still have theirs for the most part.

A friend of a friend who still owns most of the old Rush stuff on vinyl has downloaded almost all of that stuff instead of buying the CDs.  His logic is that he shouldn't have to pay for an album more than once, and since the record company and band already got his money when he bought the vinyls back in the day, why should he pay again just to get them on CD?  Hard to argue with that, no?

I agree completely.  Although, would that same logic fly with films, like, if I pay to watch it in the theater, why should I pay again to buy the DVD?  Not that I really have a problem with that either.

Well, movies are different.  You paid once to see it once, then you pay the price of seeing it once in theaters to watch it whenever you want.

I do wish more Rush fans let go of their LPs though.  Good condition used Rush vinyl is so hard to come by here!  Heck, I only started getting into it because a shop had a used copy of Power Windows and AFTK.  It was like, 7 months before I found copies of the s/t and Exit Stage Left.  Haven't seen anything since.  If I could just find Moving Pictures I'd have my holy trinity and I'd be happy.

Sorry.  None of you can have any of my LP's.  Like my 10" red vinyl, Red Sector A album or my New World Man 45 with Vital Signs live from the Moving Pictures tour. :P

Rockline was great!  Wasn't the host named Red Beard?  That's what it sounded like, or maybe I'm thinking of another show.

Rockline was/is Jim Coburn.

Red Beard is the guy behind the In The Studio Show.

Rockline is usually live, or at least it was.

In The Studio is/was recorded. (The more recent album anniversary shows use older canned quotes from previous shows -- at least that's the case with the Rush shows that I have).

As far as vinyl:

I will part with some extra Rush vinyl. I pretyty sure I still have copies of 2112, Hemispheres and a bunch of other too.

You can find them and more in this thread:

Ah yes.  I used to listen to both of those shows whenever I could catch them, and they kinda blurred together in my foggy memory.

The stupid ticket prices were only the start - £3.80 for a small coke! £4 for a hot-dog! I felt like I'd been mugged. A guy ran after me shouting "Sir! Come Back! You've still got 20p left in your pocket!"

Rush - F*cking amazing. Favourite part? All of it! Alex's fat suit, the "moving pitchers" gag, the "wrong instruments" video, the drum solo, Marathon, Subdivisions, Time Stand Still, 2112 - the list goes on!

The O2 arena - totally the wrong venue. Acoustically awful and wa-a-a-a-ay too big for a rock gig. Perfect for Barry Manilow or Cliff Richard fans, all wrong for rock. Those poor people up in level 4 - they were practically in another county!

Vapor Trails is sonically awful because of the well-documented "loudness wars" compression, clipping and mastering issues. But it's some of Rush's best music. Peaceable Kingdom, One Little Victory, How it Is and Secret Touch are four of the best songs in the bands career - period, and the rest of it is stonkingly good too. It's just a shame the flipping thing gives me a headache every time I listen to it. Wait till the long-promised remaster comes out - if the audio issues are solved, you'll all be claiming it's the best Rush album ever.

I love Hold Your Fire (the only Rush album where the remaster is actually worse than the original CD), Presto (Superconductor, The Pass, Scars, Chain Lightning, Show Don't Tell, Hand Over Fist - how can you not love an album with so may great songs on it?) and Roll the Bones. To put them that far down the list shows that you, sir, are an idiot.

I tried to rank them in order, but I just can't compare the newer stuff to the older stuff. Is Counterparts better or worse than 2112? I just can't do it.

Just stand against a white wall in business attire (or, if you're a software engineer, a Rush t-shirt) and have someone take a cellphone photo of your face and shoulders.

Somewhere I have a Moving Pictures T-Shirt.  Old, tattered and faded, because I actually got it at the concert.  I don't think I'll use it for my LinkedIn head shot.

Two main reasons:

1. Some of the songwriting is very bland.
2. It is probably Neil Peart's weakest lyrical effort (from an entire album standpoint) to date.  And he is my all-time favorite lyricist.
