40 minutes of 5.1 PCM lossless analog bliss.  Mmmmm... ♫♫♫♪

Wait....

wait....

Analog? Really?

No, but technically it's as close as you're going to get in a digital medium.  DTS HDMA and Dolby TrueHD are lossless compression codecs, but a PCM audio track is lossless and uncompressed as well.  Until they figure out a way to actually put analog on a disc, PCM is it.

Also, I threw that out there just to see if anyone would catch it.  Congrats!  ;)

Ah, ok!  :lol I wasn't sure if that was possible at all, but you got my hopes up for a minute!

And RS sucks. As does the RoR Hall of Fame. And anyone else who does not appreciate Rush for one of the greatest bands to ever come out of the 70s.

Rolling Stone has always seen themselves as the ones who decide what is cool.  It was actually mostly true for a while, so they're not completely deluded, but when half the bands/artists in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame aren't even Rock and Roll, and actual rock bands which have sold tens of millions of albums get snubbed year after year, it is clearly just them taking their self-appointed role of Coolness Dictators to the extreme.

What bugs me is that they pick and choose what genre of music can get into the RRHF.  I don't have a problem if they didn't exclude some types of music.  Oh well, at least in the last 4 to 5 years they seem to be coming along to Rush's side.  Maybe they've been taking a hit on their cred and the succumbed to the pressure.

I don't even care if Rush is never inducted. I think the whole concept is pretty stupid anyways. It's cool to have a "museum" of rock kind of thing... but the actual inductions and shit? Bah. Especially since they neglect so many awesome bands on purpose.

So in the recent weeks that I have been listening to Rush, it's been mostly 2112-Hold Your Fire, with the occasional listens to COS, S&A, and VT. For some reason or another, I've not really spun the first four Atlantic-era Albums more than a few times, but the others have been on massive repeat.

The two I've REALLY neglected have been the first two albums, which I've been listening to since yesterday. I nearly forgot just how GOOD some of the songs on those two albums really are! Sure they're a bit less like what they became, but for what they are (Led Zeppelin-esque songs and albums), they're really good! The playing is great for how young and "new" they were to major label recording/releasing back then. They had handfuls of songs and turned out two pretty decent albums in 1974.

I see the debut as more of the early-LZ type album, hard rock and blues with some heavier, almost metal-ish sounds. Then I see FBN as the later-LZ type album, with some longer tracks and extended instrumental sections, and a Tolkien-inspired track. They got a bit away from the LZ feel on Caress Of Steel, but the first three tracks on that album still had that feel, but to me COS is more of their Yes/Genesis type album, with two multi-movement songs (one being a side-long), and a few shorter songs, but "Bastille Day" as that EPIC ending which is a bit removed from their LZ-style songs from their first two albums.

The first two albums aren't decent...they're great.  Except Rivendell.  That song can go suck a dick.

I still like how RS trashed Led Zeppelin's debut album when it first came out, but then years later acted like they had always liked it. It's definitely one of the best examples of what RS is all about.

Fly By Night and COS are good albums. The debut is iffy to me. Musically, pretty cool, but a lot of it is very cheesy/cringeworthy.... namely the lyrics.

Finding My Way is one of my favorite Rush songs though!  :metal

How'd you like Alex's tone for his rhythm and solo's?  Plus the videos must have killed you seeing them for the first time.

Alex absolutely blew me away. I was definitely looking forward to seeing Neil and Geddy more, but some of Alex's solos were the highlight of the show (especially La Villa, holy shit).

I'm going to see Rush on 25 May at the O2 in London. For those of you over the pond, the O2 is that big Millenium Dome thing that James Bond falls down in The World is not Enough.

Point is, it's massive. It's twice the size of Wembley. And I'm right at the back.  :tdwn

So while I'm looking forward to the show, I'm also starting to think I might have been better off seeing them at one of their other UK shows, Sheffield or Birmingham, maybe, where they're playing more stnadrad sized arenas.

How do people get tickets for the front rows, anyway? I've been to thousands of concerts and the only times I've ever been anywhere near the front are for general admission shows.

Anyway. have been listening to all the Rush albums in order in anticipation. 2112 is even better than I recalled, as was Permanant Waves. Hemispheres not so much.

Permanent Waves was actually a bummer this time. I don't like it entirely too much, but I absolutely love Hemispheres.

Yeah, but we have no way of knowing it was the same way, and I don't remember it from the first leg. Like I said, I'm not sure it was a screw up, but it *might* have been one.
