Okay, I listened to Moving Pictures on Blu-ray tonight.  I think I nearly came in my pants about five times.  But that was over the course of 40 minutes, so you have to take that into account.

40 minutes of 5.1 PCM lossless analog bliss.  Mmmmm... ♫♫♫♪

I fucking love having a nice home theater and sound system.  I'm not bragging; it's not that nice, but it sounds damned good and that's what counts.

Now I have to hunt down a 5.1 copy of Snakes and Arrows.

Wow, I didn't know they released it in 5.1.  I still do most of my music shopping in stores, not online, and never saw anything other than a regular CD version.

Orbit.  It's fantastic.  Also you get to see the making of video.  A must buy.

Ouch, $35 at Amazon and it's DVD-A.  Moving Pictures was $20 for Blu-ray.  I can play DVD-A, but I have to find a better price.

Pretty sure it was a limited edition thing, so I dunno how much cheaper you'll be able to find it for.

BUT IT'LL BE SO AWESOME

I think Geddy/Alex should do an improv jam after Neil's solo. I like his acoustic noodling, but I feel it could be more epic

So if I don't have a 5.1 setup, is the deluxe edition of Moving Pictures worth it? How much of a difference is there between the CD in this release, and the 'Rush Remasters' version?

I thought Moving Pictures from "The Rush Remasters" series sounded pretty damned good, but I didn't have an older CD to compare it to.  I only had my vinyl.  So I'm thinking that it would only really make a difference if you're serious audiophile or Rushophile and have a system which can do it justice.  But if that were the case, then you'd either have Blu-ray or DVD-A capability.

So the answer is to pick it up on Blu-ray now anyway, because someday you'll have an HD setup, but the price will never be this low again.

Exactly my thoughts. I got the Blu-Ray version now, but I might just go ahead and order the DVD one anyway so I can watch the "Vital Signs" video. And to just have both versions. I own both versions of Snakes & Arrows and I don't even have any sort of HD-capable or 5.1 system to listen to it on, but that's ok. I just have it so whenever I eventually do have such a system, I won't have to worry about spending ridiculous amounts of money to get something that was so cheap at time of release.

It's a DVD-A, not a regular DVD.  You're aware that there's a difference, right?  DVD-A will not play on a standard DVD player.  It must support DVD-A.

I probably will pick it up. When I bought the new Foo Fighter album earlier today, they had Moving Pictures next to it (new release section), and the Blu Ray version was only $25 CAD.

Wow, I'm posting in this thread.

You know what's cool about "A Passage to Bangkok"? Its first verse:

Our first stop is in Bogotá
To check Colombian fields
The natives smile and pass along
A sample of their yield

So I bought the Moving Pictures Deluxe Edition (the Blu Ray version). Some day, I'll actually be able to play it.  :lol
I will say, while I don't usually like Digipaks, this one is quite nice.

Geddy and Alex interviewed by Rolling Stone.  Really.

Rolling Stone; Trashing bands, and then pretending they always liked that band, since 1967.

Good interview though.  And tbh, it's Jann Wenner who hates Rush.  Maybe the interviewer actually DID like Rush for the longest time and has been lobbying for more Rush in Rolling Stone.

Nice video!  I liked the quote from Geddy: "Sometimes you don't have the requisite objectivity to know when you're doing your best work.  That's what you have producers for."  I'm not normally one of the "Dream Theater needs an outside producer again" people, but when even Rush values that outside, objective input, it does make you wonder a little bit if DT will ever go that route again.

No, but technically it's as close as you're going to get in a digital medium.  DTS HDMA and Dolby TrueHD are lossless compression codecs, but a PCM audio track is lossless and uncompressed as well.  Until they figure out a way to actually put analog on a disc, PCM is it.

Also, I threw that out there just to see if anyone would catch it.  Congrats!  ;)

Growing up in the 70's and 80's, it seemed that RS was all about the fads or what was hip or indie at the time.  I also remember talking to my cousin over the years on why RS had reviewers do a review on a Rush album that hated Rush.  They never picked someone with an open mind and or liked prog music.  It seemed slanted to their own agenda.
