They said that some of the VT songs fell into the "studio only" camp because of the way they were recorded and whatnot, Peaceable Kingdom being one of them.  I suspect they worry about some of the songs losing their power by having only one guitar live, as opposed to the wall of guitars that comes at you on the studio versions.

I figured the over-dubs would be what killed some of the songs' chances for being included in the live set. I wouldn't mind hearing "Ceiling Unlimited" brought back, especially since we didn't get it as a bonus track on RIR. I'm sure they could figure something out with some of the other songs, though. There are 7 that have yet to be played, and I'm sure they could try one or two of them.

I'd also like to add that "Good News First" might sound great with a string ensemble on it.

exactly - saw both the Vapor Trails and R30 tours and each time they played this song, streams of people headed toward the merch stand/bathroom/snack bar.

Yeah, RtB needs to stay retired.

Yeah I agree.  I wasn't shocked to see it still in rotation on the Counterparts tour.  But I figured that surely they wouldn't play it on the TFE tour.  And I was further shocked it was still being played for Vapor Trails.  I thought for sure that they would have grown tired of it.

What's wrong with Roll the bones?

Nothing.  It's just been played on too many tours in a row.  Need to give it some rest for other songs.

So it looks like Clockwork Angels will debut at #2 in the US, with about 104,707 copies sold there.
https://www.rushisaband.com/blog/2012/06/20/3171/Rushs-Clockwork-Angels-debuts-at-2-on-the-Billboard-200

For comparison, Snakes & Arrows debuted at #3 with 93,000 sales. It ties with Counterparts for their highest chart position.

The breakdown is;
72,007 CD
30,339 digital
2,361 vinyl

This doesn't include fanpack copies, which count as UK sales, but those probably wouldn't have bumped them up to #1 anyway (128,000).

Congratulations Rush!

Edit: It looks like they debuted at #1 here in Canada, with 20,000 copies sold.

Had I needed to get the album on release day I assure you I would have found a reason to get out of the office (we have running around stuff to do most days), and hit Best Buy with my suit and picked it up.

Also, sorry if this interview was posted before, but apparently, Tai Shan is Alex' and Geddy's least favorite Rush song. Surprising? I don't think so.

Ugh. Reading the paper this morning, they had, as they do every Thursday in the A&E section, this week's Canadian album chart. Surprisingly, Clockwork Angels was at #3.
Then I noticed that in the fine print, they note that they're only using iTunes sales. So basically, they're penalizing any band, such as Rush, that has strong physical media sales.

I know it doesn't really matter, but it's a bit irritating.

So we've come full circle.  Or half circle... 180... whatever.  Album sales used to only count physical sales because that's all there was.  Now they only count iTunes sales.  "They" of course is your paper, and "they" suck.  iTunes isn't even all legitimate online sales, is it?  Is the album available as an Amazon download or anywhere else?

Well the Canadian Amazon site doesn't have MP3s, but I'm assuming we have something besides iTunes.

Edit:
On another note, apparently the fanpack was ineligible for charting. They sold 40,000. If they had counted, Clockwork Angels would have debuted at #1 in the UK. Instead, they debuted at #76.
