I'm with you Matt.  I'm still amazed at how much they still care about their craft and the thought put into their music after all these year and then to still tour and pull about 9000 to 10,000 a night.

Okay, will do when I get home.

 :tup

So, semi-on-topic, I've been going back and listening to Rush's previous 6 albums (from Presto to Snakes & Arrows) and I've (re-)gained new-found appreciation for many of the songs and albums. It's also been a long while since I've really LISTENED to Rush, and taken the time to enjoy them. It's weird, like visiting a long lost friend you knew a decade ago, and are coming to familiarize yourself with them once more. I remember choruses, lyrics, drum fills...lots of little things that make me realize that Rush is deep within me, and I will live with that for the rest of my life. And I'm quite happy with that fact.

-Marc.

Similar to this i've been going back over TFE, VT, S&A for the Rush songs thread and I still don't get any joy from them. I know Rush have always written the music and the lyrics seperately but those albums is where it sounded like it.
I'm enjoying CA at the moment. It's no great leap in approach from the previous couple but the vocal melodies are better and there seems to be more variety.

I was hoping the muddiness was just the mp3 I've been listening to so it's worrying that the album is not sonically awesome. How come one of the greatest bands ever has so many poorly produced/mixed albums?

So I'm pretty sure I could make the album cover background in photoshop in ten minutes.  Hugh Syme can do great stuff.  This is lazy, IMO.

Especially as the small hand isn't in the right place.

Yeah, pointed that out awhile back, a big facepalm on that one.

Just wanted to say...

Presto > Roll The Bones

I've been listening to both over the last few hours...and I think I enjoy Presto more, as a whole, than I do Roll The Bones.

Even half-way through the album, I feel like the songs are still pretty strong and memorable whereas with RTB, I feel less drawn to them. Also, "Available Light" is one of their best album-closers post-POW/"Mystic Rhythms".

-Marc.

I also feel more of a connection with Presto than RTB.   But RTB is a better record.

That's correct, that was the intention, but when a clock really gets to 21:12 (or 9:12), the hour hand should be a 1/5 past the 9 and 4/5ths from the 10, where as on this image/the cover, the hour hand is right on 9.

I disagree that they got the time wrong on the cover.  I think they knew what they were doing and purposely put it that way.  If you watch the Clockwork Angels video teaser (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dolmgRizV0), the album cover artwork is brought to life.  The hour and minute hands do not move as traditional hour and minute hands -- because this is not meant to be a traditional time-telling clock.  So, that being said, I think it's possible the band intentionally placed the hands this way.  Why?  I'm not sure.  I have to see the album booklet and really analyze things further.  But I feel personally that the band wanted the hands the way they are now.  This is Rush!  They wouldn't fuck that up.

I might believe that if the album cover didn't look like the project of someone taking an intro to Photoshop class. All around, it looks like a very lazy job.

Although as an intro it's growing on me, was anyone shitting bricks hearing BU2B and thinking they actually replaced the first verse with what was just an intro?

Knowing that the time was longer than the single released I wasn't surprised.

I saw that, but at first I thought maybe the intro would be longer than a minute and they'd cut some of the normal song out.

Edit: And Neil has a really cool tribute in the booklet, I won't spoil it, but definitely take a look through the story and narration.

Alright, while I was mowing I listened to the album and I've got to say that I hope they extend the solo for The Wreckers live, at the end of the song.  (I think someone else said this in the thread) It gives me that uplifting feeling that the end solo in Mission does.  That goosebump moment.

Q107 Toronto presents the live, World Album Premiere of Rush’s Clockwork Angels, June 11th at 5pm .. on air and online!  Rush in studio.

Not sure if it is truly the "official" world premiere, but with Geddy and Alex in studio, it should be good.  5PM ET.  Looks like it's actually playing across all the radio stations that Corus Entertainment owns.

Fanpack disc is different to the regular release.

Son can't keep his paws off of it so I guess I know what he's getting for his birthday.

It will be a crime against humanity if The Wreckers isn't played live.

Hell, just play the whole thing. I just love how it's unfolding

Same here.

Quick check to see if we can get a unanimous vote on something.

Yea or nea, The Garden is the best closing track Rush have done since at least Available Light.

I haven't listened to the album yet but that wouldn't be a very difficult task since the closing songs on everything after Presto were bottom tier for their respective albums, imo.

I realize that, I guess I'm challenging anybody to say that The Garden is a bottom tier song. (or that they really love some of the other closing tracks)
