Now, I'm not familiar with Grooveshark's system, so forgive me if this is a silly question, but is this a fan upload of the leak, or an early release with permission from the label?

I've got to be honest.  I don't know either.

Thanks for the link. Given that the page says fans can "upload music" to Grooveshark, I'd say it's more likely a symptom of the leak than anything else. For that reason, I'd take down the link before the mods kill you. :lol

On first listen....my jaw is on the floor.

My thoughts.   I think the *REALLY GREAT* thing about it, is that it has the heaviness of their more recent albums...but many of the songs have that more majestic, anthem, bombastic, epic feel like some of the synth era stuff.  (think Marathon, Second Nature, Manhattan Project, Prime Mover)   So you end up getting the best of both worlds.    The HUGE feel of something like Marathon with the heaviness of something like Driven.     I just feel like (with the exception of VT) every album has gotten successively better since Roll the Bones.

It's a GREAT time to be a Rush fan!!!

I guess that means I'm the only one with an actual copy of the album here as of yet because I pre-ordered the fan pack and they shipped it early? (Best preorder scenario ever! Although The Neal Morse pre-orders never disappoint either.)

Definately a grower, but The Wreckers and The Garden are stellar early on.

I want the whole album live although I don't think it would ever happen. It would be the right thing to do to hear it as it was meant to be heard..

I'm almost afraid to comment on the album from a sonic standpoint but Vapor Trails does very much come to mind here.

Just my opinion. Didn't think it possible myself.

Don't go by what I say though. Trust your own ears.

Nuances are still appearing so I just may not be getting it yet. (Strangely, I think Caravan and BU2B actually sound better as remixes)

I have to keep sitting down with it.

The title track of the album is now streaming on the Rush Facebook page

https://www.facebook.com/rushtheband/app_108468622525037

The song is definitely a grower, but I really like it. It goes to a couple different places during the track, which keeps it interesting.

Its pretty dynamic, but in a smooth and chill sort of way. I really like solo as well as the part that goes:

"High above the city square, globes of light float in mid-air" Love it  :heart

Nice.  The good thing about that is I can already tell that, despite being on their FB page and not the real CD, it won't be as loud and noisy as I feared.  When that first heavy riff comes in around :31 or so, it sounded too loud and noisy where I first heard it ;), but it sounds much better already, so that is a huge relief.

Oh, and that song is just an absolute beast. :metal :metal

After one listen, my first impression is that it's an awesome tune. Definitely not the sprawling epic I was expecting, but it's still varied and great. I may actually end up preferring it to Caravan, BU2B and Headlong Flight (and I loved all three).

OK, listening to the album now.  I'm getting a late 80's/early 90's Rush vibe, combined with a grandiosity/arc reminiscent of Coldplay.  This is some serious shit.

Things are most definately improving now.

I love those slow burners. Pretty much a nod to every album they've ever done.

The Wreckers is a masterpiece. Damn near the best song they've written EVER.

Midrange very muddy, takes a while to disassemble it.

I know Alex likes to rock out, but he seriously needs to push play whenever he gets near an acoustic guitar (And I know I've said this before.)

Maybe Geddy stealth record him and put it out as a bonus disc or something.

My updated Rush set list for this year's tour.  I think this would be great and is very realistic.

Set 1:

2112 (Parts I and II)
The Analog Kid
Middletown Dreams
Clockwork Angels
The Wreckers
Headlong Flight
Where's My Thing (although I could see one of the S&A instrumentals being played here, as that middle of the first set instrumental to give Geddy's voice a break)
Limelight
Closer to the Heart
Far Cry
The Garden

Set 2:

The Spirit of Radio
Caravan
BU2B
Carnies
The Enemy Within
The Anarchist
Seven Cities of Gold
YYZ
Drum solo
The Trees
Xanadu
Tom Sawyer

Encore:

Subdivisions
La Villa Strangiato

And frankly, I'd love to see them end the entire show with The Garden; the song is that good and would be an awesome closer, but a lot of fans might find it a bit too disappointing.  I normally do not advocate them playing a new song in the encore this deep into their careers, but I think The Garden would be a fantastic closer.  This is a tour supporting Clockwork Angels after all!

Just wanted to say...

Presto > Roll The Bones

I've been listening to both over the last few hours...and I think I enjoy Presto more, as a whole, than I do Roll The Bones.

Even half-way through the album, I feel like the songs are still pretty strong and memorable whereas with RTB, I feel less drawn to them. Also, "Available Light" is one of their best album-closers post-POW/"Mystic Rhythms".

Listened to Clockwork Angels (the song) a couple times more now. Having trouble sort of wrapping my head around it, but I'm liking it more with each listen. I'm enjoying the intro best at this point, with the riff at 1:07 being my favorite moment, though that may change as I begin to understand the piece better.

The part that was in that 30-second sample from the Italian website (the latter part of the first two verses; the part that rocks really fast) is just so completely badass; the music is awesome and fast, and the vocal melody is very unique and melodic.  And the way it then explodes into the chorus is incredible.   :hefdaddy :hefdaddy

I think that pretty much ensures it's place in the live set, along with, I hope, the first five tracks and "Headlong Flight".

Also...Nick - 3 copies of the CD?! Really? :lol Let me guess... 1 for the car, 1 for the CD player for your home system, and 1 for...the bathroom CD player, ya know, when you have those really long dumps or are in the shower for like 30 minutes?

Ahhh okay, that explains it. Whew! I was worried for a second...I hope your sister and best friend enjoy the album!

I may go out and buy another copy myself after my Classic Rock Fan Pack comes in!

BTW, that vinyl cover just looks nice. Post some pics of the inside and the vinyls themselves once you get it open if you could! I'd love to see it. I really wish Roadrunner had offered a huge boxset with the vinyl and the CD.

 :tup

So, semi-on-topic, I've been going back and listening to Rush's previous 6 albums (from Presto to Snakes & Arrows) and I've (re-)gained new-found appreciation for many of the songs and albums. It's also been a long while since I've really LISTENED to Rush, and taken the time to enjoy them. It's weird, like visiting a long lost friend you knew a decade ago, and are coming to familiarize yourself with them once more. I remember choruses, lyrics, drum fills...lots of little things that make me realize that Rush is deep within me, and I will live with that for the rest of my life. And I'm quite happy with that fact.
