I love Rivendell.   I REALLY LOVE SUPERCONDUCTOR!!!   I really like Tai Shan.    But ya....Dog Years is pretty bad.

I still put Tai Shan and Rivendell above Face Up or Neurotica, or Heresy or You Bet Your Life.

Guys, https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=7.0

Read those, if anything is unclear please PM me, but I think all relevant rules are rather clear on the subject.

Edit: So yes, let's continue to discuss the amazing music of Rush (like stuff that isn't Rivendell or Superconductor)

Album's very good. I saw a lot of people on The Rush Forum hating on the title track, but I'd probably consider it their best song in years. Very proggy.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

On my second listen now.  First listen didn't hit me as anything amazing, but on my second listen I'm already liking it more.  The title track is quite good, as are the last two.  Lots of tasty bass on the album.  :)

You can rationalize anything if you believe enough. :neverusethis:

Nevertheless, don't give in.  Wait for release day like us real Rush fans.  There's almost nothing like the wait for something eagerly anticipated.

Ouch.

Anyways, I'm not sure yet if the album is better than S&A (which was an incredibly strong album) but it is quite good.  The Garden is probably the non-single standout from my POV.

EDIT: Damn forgot about Halo Effect, Carnies, and the title track.  Hrm

I'm listening to the Duke Suite live from Lyceum 1980 and I can assure you that I'm not thinking about Clockwork Angels right now.

With the intention of approaching this from a "concept album" stand point, I'm trying to give this whole listens, so I'm on my 2nd with headphones. I'd have to say - they really did pull the three-piece sound like they said they would, and the bass is pretty killer, probably some of the best bass sound in years from them.

Vocally, it's a very interesting album. I'm glad everything sounds a bit less dense and a bit more separated.

I like the title track and agree with skydivingninja, probably one of their best in years. It is a bit unusual to me, however, that after 4 songs on a Rush album, I'm already 25 minutes through! :lol

Given that Geddy said that they are planning on playing "a lot" of the new album, I think BU2B2 and Wish Them Well are the easy two to eliminate, but would they play all of the other 10? Or maybe go with 8-9?  And if so, which other one or two would lose out?  I can't see them not playing the first five, Headlong Flight and The Wreckers, so that is 7 right there.  They haven't played a final song from an album since Power Windows, but it would be a travesty to not play The Garden.

Agree with this entirely. The first five are golden, and "Headlong Flight" is a shoe-in. I can't see them NOT playing "Seven Cities Of Gold", so I'd say "Halo Effect" would lose out this Tour, along with "BU2B2" and "Wish Them Well", meaning they could play at most the 9 other songs. Guess we'll have to wait (awhile) and see...

"The Garden" is pretty damn good, probably one of their best closing tracks in awhile.

I'm pretty happy so far. For me it gets better (and more melodic  :omg:) as it goes. Geddy sounds good (ish) thanks to more melodic material. Plenty of bass- so much so alot of the album reminds me of Seinfeld!
For the first time in a long long time I'm looking forward to getting to know a Rush album.

Hey guys, how about we put spoilers in small letters so that people that have a stronger willpower than us don't have to avoid the thread?

On my first listen the album was meh. After reading reviews and interviews with the guys I had my hopes very high. I will give it more spins today in hope it gets better

S&A (which was an incredibly strong album)

You really think so? I see it as a consistent album that lacks highlights. I loved it the first couple of times but it has not aged well at all for me.

I'm with ya there on S&A.  Solid top to bottom, but no real highs (or lows for that matter)

I'm holding off until next Tuesday.

With the notion of them playing so much of this album on the upcoming tour, it's EXTREMELY tempting to just pull the trigger on tickets right now. I'm on my second listen (at BU2B2 right now) at the moment, and it's even better. The title track is probably as close to Hemispheres as we'll ever get. Live, I think it will be one of the highlights of the show. Really, all of these songs are going to totally own in a live setting.

Don't get lost on that comparison. CA is nothing like Hemispheres, just a long & nice prog song.

I don't think it even has a hint of Hemispheres in it.  See, this is what gets fans hopes up and then disappointed: comparisons to old, classic songs that do nothing but make some think that they are gonna be hearing a new Rush song that sounds like one of the classics.

Nah, I think there are just fans that actually WANT that classic Rush sound and style.  They could pump out a half a dozen albums that sound like Hemispheres and I'd buy every one of them on release day.  If they keep making stuff like Snakes and Arrows, I'm gonna pass every time.

I think I'm going to quit listening to samples beforehand. The Italian samples were terrible representations of the album. This album is awesome!! My favorites are the title track, The Garden, and The Wreckers. The only tracks that I can't get into are Seven Cities of Gold and Halo Effect. I do like Wish Them Well and BU2B2, even though many people, especially on The Rush Forum, seem to not care for them. The Garden is one of my favorite Rush songs, and is probably going to end up in my top 10. Overall, this is a very strong album and their best since Counterparts (which is one of my favorites). Way better than Snakes and Arrows and Vapor Trails, both of which I like, and miles better than Test For Echo. I can't wait to hear this album live. I wouldn't mind if they played the whole thing live. Maybe Seven Cities and Halo Effect will work well live.

I think I'm kind of intrigued by the story, but know so little of it at this point.

Yep.  Though I hear some of the 2112 finale in "Clockwork Angels." and of course the Headlong Flight/Bastille Day similarities are pretty clear, IMO.
