I'm telling you, if it's ever going to happen again this will be the tour that 2112 gets played in full one last time.

True, but I just don't think Geddy's voice can handle the strain of singing all of that song every night anymore.

I could easily pass on The Pass.  Give me War Paint, Anagram, even Chain Lightning before The Pass.

Good setlist Kev... but it just seems like Deja Vu.  I'd love to see some songs not done much in the last 10 years... gimee Cygnus (yes, I know the vocals are tough), give me some part of Hemisphere's, Where's My Thing, Jacob's Ladder, Beneath, Between & Behind ... time to mix it up a bit more.

Prolly not gonna happen tho.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad

Well, they seem to give us a few songs a tour now that have either never been played or haven't been played in a while (not counting new songs at the time):

VT tour: New World Man, Between Sun and Moon, Vital Signs, By-Tor and the Snow Dog, half of Cygnus X-1 (as opposed to just a tease at the end of YYZ) and Working Man
R30 tour: Between the Wheels, Mystic Rhythms and Xanadu
S&A tour: Digital Man, Entre Nous, Mission, Circumstances, Ghost of a Chance, Witch Hunt and A Passage to Bangkok
TM tour: Time Stand Still, Presto, Stick It Out, Faithless, Marathon and The Camera Eye

So, I think the odds are good that we see 3-4 songs that have either never been played or haven't been played in at least 10 years.  The set list I posted has 6 such songs, although 3 of them were played on the VT tour 10 years ago.

With any luck, they decided to not play Jacob's Ladder last time out since they were saving it for the next tour. :)

Unfortunately Alex has since commented that they rehearsed the song but just weren't feeling it and went with other stuff instead. That doesn't mean that it won't get played, but they weren't simply saving it sadly.

I guess the songs I would be happiest to see live would be:

1. The Necromancer
2. Losing it
3. Middletown Dreams
4. Ghost of a Chance
5. Anthem

Just seeing one of those would make me a happy camper.

I hadn't heard him say that, but it is possible that they didn't want to do that and The Camera Eye on the same tour, since both are longer (for them, since they hadn't done a song 7 minutes or longer since 1981 until this year) and both have a lot of mellow parts.  They might not want to have dedicated two spots in the show to longer tracks that don't rock enough.  This is all me speculating, of course. :lol

I guess the songs I would be happiest to see live would be:

1. The Necromancer
2. Losing it
3. Middletown Dreams
4. Ghost of a Chance
5. Anthem

Just seeing one of those would make me a happy camper.

I think Middletown Dreams is by far the most likely of those five to get played this year.  Neither Anthem nor The Necromancer have a shot in hell (unless they played a part of each in an instrumental medley, like I mentioned earlier), Losing It would be too hard to play since a violin is not only featured prominently, but plays the solo, and Ghost of a Chance got played on the 2nd leg of the S&A tour, and if they are going play something from Roll the Bones again, I suspect it would one of the others they have played before.  Middletown Dreams was rumored to have been talked about in rehearsals on several of the past few tours, so it sounds like a song they have considered, thus giving it a chance.  I'd love to see it.

Very little that I havn't seen that I actually want to see. And what IS on the list doesn't have a chance, so I'm just happy with what I get.

But if I'm pipe dreaming anyway...

All of Cygnus.
The Necromancer
Xanadu (complete and uncut)
Jacob's Ladder
What You're Doing
The complete Fear suite.

Kev, unfortunately I don't remember WHERE it was said, but what I said is the reason Alex gave, the band just wasn't feeling the song.

Edit: Trying like hell to find it but no luck so far. It was in a fairly recent interview, after the tour had been finished, and I think it was in some mag you wouldn't expect.

Cat Fancy?
Good Houskeeping?
Cosmo?

Actually, I wouldn't put it past Alex to have an interview with any of those.

Well if playing all (or nearly all) of "2112" is in the realm of possibilities, what if the band A/B'd both "2112" and "Hemispheres" (down-tuned of course)? Possibly at the end of the 1st set or in the middle of the 2nd set?

2112 has a LOT more mainstream exposure, and that even includes the full song now that it was in Guitar Hero and gets played in full on satellite radio. We also just had the 2112 event with a bunch of ground radio playing it in full. There is a lot of pull for 2112 to get played again. And while hardcore fans want Hemispheres just as bad, there simply isn't the pull to get a long tough song like that played as there is with 2112.

Point taken, but I can totally see the band only playing most of it, like they did in the 70's, and not ALL of it, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. I wonder if it will still be in the same key it was when it was played back in 15 years ago...

Hi guys. Probably been asked dozens of times, but what Rush albums would you recommend for a newcomer to the band who is obsessed with Dream Theater?  :lol

Favourite DT albums:
1. Images and Words
2. Train of Thought
3. A Dramatic Turn of Events
4-6. - Octavarium/Scenes/Awake

Cheers

Although not my favorite albums, Moving Pictures and then Permanent Waves are the clear choice for a new Rush fan. They are well loved by most Rush fans and are very accessible for new fans. After that I'd either move into the two albums before, or Signals and Power Windows depending on which you think would be more in tune with his tastes.

Train of Thought is in my top 2 for DT as well.

I'd listen to Nick - PW and MP are the places to start.

Been meaning to try and get into them for a while. I watched 'I Love You, Man' last night, where they are referenced quite a lot and that has convinced me to finally try them out properly  ;D

Hmmmm, well, that is disappointing, but I'd rather they play songs they are feeling and excited about than songs the fans want to hear that they are bored with and going through the motions during.  It's just too bad that Jacob's Ladder became the latter instead of the former.  :(

Exactly. I'm not going to be too picky about which old songs get brought back as long as we see 4-5 songs that haven't been played live in a long time.

Finally. Confirmation that this is a concept record. For better or worse I'm glad Rush are attempting it, and based off of some of Nick's comments and the songs already available I'm super excited.
