Buying my cereal the other day, I happened to notice the expiration date...

Anyone buy Neil's new DVD?

If you did, does it play through Disc 3?

Mine doesn't because The Trees and Natural Science have each others index numbers. They will play individually but it gets hung up when you select play all.

Just wondering if I'm the only one with this problem or if it's an epidemic?

I'd like to know if I need to go back to Guitar Center or contact Hudson Music.

Thanks in advance!

ytserush

Anyone seeing Rush on the big screen in less than 24 hours?

I'm psyching myself up (not that I really need to) by watching Neils's new DVD.

Not this time.  I did for the Doc and met Donna Halper.  She was very cool.

I'm heading to theaters with 3 others tomorrow night, can't wait!

KevShmev

I was considering going tomorrow night, but with the Cardinals playing Game 6 of the World Series, no can do.  I'll see if I can do the other St. Louis date next Thursday, but that might be tough.

My Signals cassette tape won't play Subdivisions....   :(

My sister got a close-up during 2112. I was next to her but couldn't tell right away on first watch how well you could see me. Awesome either way.

Rush: New Album In Early 2012

Geddy Lee: "We're almost finished writing. We wound the machine back up about three weeks ago. After a sluggish start, we've had a very fruitful couple of weeks in terms of writing. I'm very pleased with the direction that the material has taken. And I think we have one or two more songs that we'd like to write, and then we'll start recording in earnest. Hopefully we'll have all of the recording done before Christmas. Then we'll mix it some time in the next year, and then get it out. "

I'm hoping they aim for an early May release, to keep with tradition:
Vapor Trails - Released: May 14, 2002
Snakes & Arrows - Released: May 1, 2007
Clockwork Angels - To Be Released... May 1st, 8th or 15th, 2012?

I think either of those dates work, but it's funny that their last three albums would all be 5 years apart from each other. (Well worth the wait, IMO)

Either way, I cannot wait for this! I hope they put 12 songs on the album to match the idea of a clock-face and use each of the symbols/characters on the "Caravan" single cover as images for each of the 12 songs, ya know, just to complete the "concept" of the album as Neil was directing it towards.

They also released Feedback in 2004, but you might not have counted that as it wasn't original material.

Since Geddy said the tour probably won't start until the second half of 2012, I'll go out on a limb and say this might not be out until June or later to get those summer vacations out of the way.

I just realized that I'll have the live DVD in my hands and watching it this time tomorrow.  I'm now officially psyched.

KevShmev

Maybe it's because of oversaturation since the band has released so many live DVDs in the last decade, or maybe I am just distracted by all of the great music that has come out in 2011, but my excitement level for this forthcoming release isn't very high.  Of course I say that, but the minute I buy it and start watching it, that will change really fast. :lol

MasterShakezula

I'm really excited because it'll be my first new Rush album!

I hope it isn't the last.

KevShmev

I actually meant the live DVD, but I hear ya as far as the new studio album goes.  That, I am looking forward to a lot, even if they are taking forever to finish it.

Agree completely with ya Kev.  Along with the great music of 2011, I've been discovering a lot of other stuff that I somehow missed.  Avantasia, Allen-Lande, Frameshift, Harem Scarem... I've picked up over a dozen albums that are 100% new to me.  Live Rush - as awesome as it is - isn't exactly 'new'.

But, I'll get it, and love it regardless.  Just don't have any twitching anticipation for it.

Dr. DTVT

If this has been discussed before, forgive me...but is anyone else's copy of "Presto" have the back insert upside-down on the sides?  I'll follow up with pictures if needed, but I just noticed that the text on the sides of the CD are upside down compared to every other CD I've ever owned.

Orbert

Mine's the same.  When I go to put it in the CD rack, I have to turn it around first.  Otherwise, the writing on the spine goes the wrong way compared to the others.

The King in Crimson

A few of my Pink Floyd CD's are like that too.

Orbert

It's really kinda stupid if you think about it.  There's obviously a standard orientation for which way the writing goes on each spine, relative to the front and back covers.  I'm sure that 99.9% of the time, whatever info is going on there (band name, title, label, numbers) just gets typed in on a keyboard, and it gets printed correctly via the default settings.  It seems like you'd have to actually do it manually and get it wrong to screw this up.  Yet it happens, and for CDs that don't even have anything unusual about them otherwise.

Nofire

Currently listening to the new live album and DAMN, it's good! This one is going to get many spins in the future. Can't wait to see the DVD, since seeing the show in person was amazing. The best looking show they've done in my opinion. What do you guys think of the new live album/DVD?

KevShmev

I think my Presto insert is like that as well. :lol

Orbert

Rush: Time Machine Live was on TV the other day (Palladia, the MTv HD music channel) so I recorded it.  Unfortunately, my DVR is dying, so I only got the first 10 minutes or so.  I had happened to catch the very end the other night, which was some kind of nutty time-warped version of them called Rash in a German sausage restaurant.  That's okay; these guys always have crazy stuff going on throughout the videos.  But when I watched the first 10 minutes, it of course all made sense, and I thought it was hilarious.  Then the actual concert started, then my DVR fucked up, and that's all I saw.

That's okay, I was going to get the Blu-ray anyway.  My buddies from home went to this concert, said it was awesome.  My one friend even took his 18-year-old daughter to it, her first Rush concert.  I can't imagine how cool it would've been growing up with parents who'd take me to rock concerts.

Nick

Best Buy better have my blu-ray waiting for me when I get home...

I recall mine was as well.  I got rid of all my cases a few years ago... only keeping the inserts and CD's.  Took up way too much room.  Now I have all my CD's in a few 3" binders.

I thought about doing that.  Get a couple of those binders with squares to hold the CD and the insert, four to a "page", and keep my entire collection on a regular bookshelf.  Never got around to it.  Now, it doesn't seem like it'd be worth the time, since I never pull the CDs out anymore anyway.

I didn't want to just toss everything, so that's exactly what I did.  I simply didn't have anywhere to keep my CD stand anymore.  It was big, bulky, and an eye sore.  Since I rarely pull them out, there was no need to keep them out in the open.

The Curious Orange

I got the Time Machine Live CD last night - not the DVD, mind, just the CD. I listened to a bit of it last night and - Geddy's voice is awful. it almost made me wonder whether this had been mastered at the right speed. As a long-time Rush fan, I know his voice is limited, but this is the worst I've ever heard him sing, it really spoilt it for me, especially as he's so high in the mix.

I'm surprised they didn't over-dub, or even choose a different night to release. How's the mix on the DVD? Is it as bad?

Orbert

I've only watched a small part of it so far (gotta wait until this weekend when everyone's gone) but I noticed that Geddy is singing differently or something.  I was surprised that he could still hit the high notes in "The Spirit of Radio" but realized he's using a weird head-voice or semi-falsetto or something to do it.  It's not his "regular high voice".  I understand that he can't wail like that anymore, and that's fine, but whatever is going on with his voice is definitely weird.
