Kevin Moore raising funds to release "Shine" soundtrack
« on: September 07, 2010, 09:44:20 AM »
Hey, everyone:

Kevin Moore announced yesterday on Chromakey.com that he has launched a funding project
to manufacture and release his soundtrack made for the 2006 Turkish film, "Küçük Kiyamet."
If funding reaches $3,000, the album – entitled "Shine" – would be released in November,
and those who pre-order would receive the CD two weeks earlier than the release date.
T-shirts and posters are also part of the funding based on the pledged amount.

"It is already recorded, mixed and mastered," Moore wrote on a Kickstarter.com page created
to track pledges.  "I've started this Kickstarter project to fund the design and manufacture
of the physical CD.  The funding deadline is October 8, 2010, and no one will be
charged for their pledges unless the funding goal is reached by that date."

To pledge or view a teaser video and tracklist, visit the Kickstarter page:

Same here. Still has 31 days left, maybe I'll be able to scrape something together.

I'm sort of strapped for cash at the moment, but I'll see what I can do. I loved his soundtrack Ghost Book.

Same here (cash) but I will find a way to get at least the 10$ copy in a few weeks. I was so pissed that they never released the soundtrack when the movie came out, this is great news.

Is the soundtrack any good? Does it sound like Chroma Key or something else he's done or is it something pretty different?

Have you ever heard Ghost Book? You can listen to it right from his site to give you an idea of what his soundtracks are like.

I actually own the "Kucuk Kiyamet" movie from 2006.  I have it on DVD with English subtitles.  Kevin's soundtrack was nominated for a SIYAD movie award by Turkish movie critics.  His work on this soundtrack movie is vastly superior to what he did with Ghost Book, in my opinion.  I was always disappointed that this soundtrack didn't see the light of day.  Now it will.  We've almost reached the $3,000 mark after just one day.  This is exciting.

If they reach the goal do you think they'll stop accepting pledges? I'm still not sure if I want to do one yet. I've listened to half of Ghost book so far ans while it's good it's not as great as Chroma Key or a lot of his other work.

This is a pretty good deal though. Supporting a great artist while getting a CD and poster for just $20? Can't beat that.

Yeah, Kickstarter is a great site. I donated to the new Tartar Lamb album earlier this year.

Holy cow, it's past the goal already! I'll definitely contribute though, because I'll both be getting the CD and helping to fund better packaging design.

Quote from: K-Mo
That was unbelievable! I was worried about raising the funds in 30 days, and you guys surpassed the goal in 24 hours. The Shine album is now a certainty. Young Shine is getting his sail --- he can stop struggling now. Thank you all!

The project will continue until October 8 (that's the Kickstarter rules), so we'll continue to raise funds until then. The additional funds will allow for more creative options for the CD and T-shirt designs and packaging -- I'd like this to be the best CD packaging I've released yet. And I'll be pressing 500 CD's of the album, so the more we can set sail, the better!

Please spread the word about the project. The links/gadgets/facebook things below the video work pretty well, so give them a try if you have a sec. I'm going to be posting some more rewards and bonuses soon (you may have already won!), in hopes of keeping this project going and growing. Thanks to everyone who's pledged so far!

-KMo

P.S. For those who have already pledged, look for another track in the exclusive updates section soon, as a thank you for reaching the goal!

The fans really came out in force!  It gives me chills.  In less than 24 hours we past the goal.  This is a really fan friendly thing to do for Kevin, who usually keeps a low profile.  It's kinda exciting.

I think the part that gets me the most is that they did made it with so few people. The average person donated $40+

Just put myself down for the $20 package. I'm really happy to see him getting this much support!  :D

Edit: I really like the two tracks he's posted! Not quite up to Chroma Key or any of his other project's standards but it's still good.  :tup

As with any soundtrack, you have to consider that it's not music that's meant to be the focus of attention. Like with Ghost Book, it's all about atmosphere.

Yea, it's all atmosphere.  No KM vocals.  Although he's mentioned some "bonus tracks," which I have a feeling will have KM vocals.  One might be a song "Periscope" by Steve Tushar that KM sang on last year.  It's great seeing him post and respond to fans.  I love it.

I'm just bumping this to remind myself I need to pre-order it before it's too late.

I've been waiting a long time to hear it.

I've been following it every day. It's at $8,000 right now with 16 days to go. It would be cool if it raised $7, making the percentage raised 300% :neverusethis:

Wow, I can't donate (haven't even paid my rent for this month  ) but this is great. With 5 hours to go, it should really be able to hit 10.000
Maybe I'll buy it later though, I love KM's work.

If the music excited me to even a very slight degree I would have got the 20 or 35 dollar pledge, but frankly I saw no reason to put any money towards this.

@ Nick: I totally understand.  To be fair, this is a soundtrack, not a Chroma Key album w/ Kevin vocals.  I do have the movie and the music fits in great.  Kevin was nominated for a Turkish movie award based on the soundtrack.  But as an "album," you could be right.  Still, this has been a fun process and it will be cool to see fan names in the album booklet.
