Oh geez, this is hard to say definitively, but for the moment...

"High Hopes" - Pink Floyd
"Anybody Listening?" - Queensryche
"Late for the Sky" - Jackson Browne
"The Light & Shade of Things" - Fates Warning
"Symbolic" - Death

But man, I feel pretty shaky on some of these picks. :lol Could easily change in a few days.

To me personally (the reason I had it in my list) is that I think it's one of the best progressive metal tracks ever made. I could swap it with King of Loss (Pain of Salvation) or a song by Dream Theater (probably Metropolis), but in recent years Leprous have become on of my favourite bands. Bilateral was listed as my #2 album ever the last time I did a top 50 list and Forced Entry is a good reason for that. It's got everything good about prog metal in a single track and it's the best representation of the genre I could think of for this 'Top 5 songs ever' thing.
I agree it's the definitive prog metal track, hard to find a best example for the genre. In the past I had the same feeling for Haken's Pareidolia, but I don't like that song much anymore.

This is impossible.  So let's take a shot.

Transatlantic - Stranger in Your Soul
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
Sigur Ros - Hoppipolla
John Hiatt - Lipstick Sunset
Punch Brothers - My Oh My

Yes - Endless Dream
Rush - Time Stand Still
Boston - Forplay/Longtime
Dream Theater - Octavarium
Triumph - Fight The Good Fight

There are many songs that could rotate in and out of this list but these ones are hard to beat. 😎

Non-ROCK song by Rush is your favorite Rush song and one of your 5 favorite songs??? Very surprising.

Time Stand Still is just such a well written song with a lot of depth.  Rush definitely has some other contenders that could make this list.  Spirit of Radio, Natural Science, Xanadu, Red Barchetta, Headlong Flight etc.

If I had to list top 5 songs that made your jaw hit the floor the quickest the first you heard it, Foreplay/Long Time would be on that list.  I couldn't believe how awesome that song was the first time I heard it back in 1989.

And if I had to expand this list to top 20-25 songs of all time, it would also make that list.

Thinking on my list, it is maybe unique in that my top 4 have probably stayed the same for the past 20 years. 2 of those are landmark songs in musical development, that sound as fresh as they did the first time I heard them all those years ago. The other two hold nostalgic value that has not diminished any in that time.

There are times in my life that the Boston and Triumph song would be way up there. Great calls. I had to buy 2 vinyl albums of that Triumph album because I played it so much. There were screeching scratches throughout.

I love the Triumph entry... though for me, it's a close #2 behind Magic Power.

Yeah, Magic Power is a great song.  Fight The good Fight is well crafted with exciting parts the whole way through. I just love the drumming in that song too.  :metal

I'd take Hold On over Magic Power though.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Hmm... top 5 of all time.  Obviously hard to narrow down that far, but I'll give it a shot (5 songs is such a short list!).  To make the top 5 of all time each song here is a song I considered my "favorite song ever!" for a period of years, and also really still love and consider a favorite today.

Damn Yankees "Silence is Broken"
Dream Theater "I Walk Beside You"
Neal Morse "So Many Roads"
Shadow Gallery "Rain"
Transatlantic "Duel With the Devil"

Really nice to see I Walk Beside You get that level of praise! While I wouldn't say I love it that much, it's a very great song and one that I feel is looked down upon too much.
Also nice to see Duel With the Devil. The Whirlwind is my favorite Transatlantic song, but Duel With the Devil is easily my second-favorite.

Heck yeah, great call!  Silence Is Broken is a top tier song from Damn Yankees. It was also featured during the end credits to the movie Chain Reaction.  :coolio

I was so ready for a 3rd album by them at some point, but it sadly never came.  We did get the Shaw/Blades album in '95 and the Tommy Shaw solo album, 7 Deadly Zens, in the later 90's, though, and those felt like loose extensions of the Damn Yankees sound to a certain extent, so they were basically the next best thing, for me anyway.
