I interviewed Mike. It was awesome!
« on: August 31, 2010, 10:55:09 AM »
Hey everyone. Currently here in Detroit i am working on a documentary called DETROIT ROCKS ( check out the trailer @ www.detroitrocksproject.com) The short of the long is that we wanted to interview some bands that have big pull in Detroit fan wise and stuff. Natrually i thought of Dream Theater and was lucky enough to interview Mike at their hotel (as well as meet JLB, see John Pettrucci buy his kid a Ice Cream and see Myung walking to the bus) it was one of the best days ever for me! Just wanted to share with everyone!

I have to say, while it was ok in the beginning, I was tiring quickly of all the Detroit-related questions.

The special vibe of Detroit audiences?

Jeez these questions are boring so far.

Well... The Detroit music scene is the point of the documentary Mike is being interviewed for here, isn't it?

Not to be a spoil sport, but I laughed when he said that DT hasn't played in Detroit the last few tours minutes after saying that it is one of the essential American cities to play in, maybe even top 5 (which I am sure he would say about almost any major city if he was being interviewed in a similar context by someone from said city). :p

That's why I hate those kinds of questions. They're bound to lie, because nobody would say "Detroit sucks" while in that very city.

That!

And yeah, the documentary is about the Detroit music scene, so obviously the city is going to be a large focus of the interview. :lol

TTTSTA, that's cool, man!
A friend of mine used to work for a small radio station, and somehow he managed to get DT's management to arrange for us to interview JLB before a show in NY in like '94 or '95. We never made it, though, because my car broke down on the way there and left us stuck in NJ. It's one of my biggest disappointments.
I am God when it goes to hell
When it turns out good I'm not to blame

Thanks for the positive comments! And yes we were Interviewing Mike for the Detroit Rocks Documentary. Mike said off camera that Detroit was one of the first City's to embrace DT and that he is forever grateful which is why he accepted the interview in the first place!

With Mike being my hero of course i wanted to ask him some better questions and more personal things, but at the end of the day i was there as part of a job! Of course i wanted to ask him why my copy of pull me under cuts off randomly every time i listen to it. but the Detroit questions was what i was sent to ask.

Off camera Mike signed a drumhead for me and my BC&SL box set. My friend that went with me (camera guy) was also a fan and he brought the original LSFNY for Mike to sign. He asked Mike "Are you comfortable with signing this?" and Mike goes "Yeah, I'm not in Al Qiueda". Which i thought was hilarious!

It was a great day and something i will remember for the rest of my life!

Sorry for my negative comment. I wasn't aware it was for a Detroit documentary.

That's cool, man. It had to have been a great experience. ;D

I bet you wish your interview had been scheduled for today or tomorrow instead... then you would have been the first guy to interview ex-DT Portnoy!
