(Sorry for posting twice:)

Just finished listening to ...And Out Come the Wolves by Rancid. It was wicked...I'm adding it to the list of albums I'm going to buy. Thanks ZBomber!

my camp friends
lol

Anyway, for best albums to start with, I would definitely go with (as good and generally accessible representations of each band):

Radiohead - OK Computer
Pain of Salvation - Remedy Lane
The Offspring - Ixnay on the Hombre
Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
Bad Religion - Stranger Than Fiction
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia
Nirvana - Nevermind

Those are all bands for which I have every album, and for some it's not even my favourite album by that band but the one I think is best for a new listener.

Ariich is a freak, or somehow has more hours in the day than everyone else.
I be am boner inducing.

Radiohead - Kid A / OK Computer
Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun

I'd say.

Im going to say get all of the Crue and Skid Row and start from the beginning.

Pain of Salvation I strongly suggest you avoid.....listening to it is...a lesson in confusion, anger, disgust and annoyance. You recognize some obvious talent...but will fail to understand or hear music that makes you want to listen to it ever again.
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Happy Lives to you all.

and TDOL...despite the obvious humor of the above jab....you'll find many many posters here who share my opinion. Most of them are in some kind of a P.O.S closet...acting the dutiful part of fanboy while failing to comprehend how this music could ever have gotten so much hype as it has.
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Personally i've given PoS many tries, but at best they're just mediocre. In my eyes ofc.
But i'd say that its a good thing that some people can appreciate it, someone clearly has to.

Yep, it all boils down to opinions. You two find them mediocre, I find them more talented, emotional, diverse, experimental and entertaining than three of the most talked about bands here - Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, and Opeth - combined.

Remedy Lane is a pretty good album.  I don't listen to it all the time, but there's some good prog metal on there, along with some mediocre prog metal.  I can understand why people love them as much as they do.

Yes. This is exactly how I feel, I just don't quite 'get' them like others do clearly.

Piece of Mind and Powerslave, anyone who suggests Number Of The Beast is bad and they should feel bad (still a pretty good album though).

Piece of Mind should be first.

Number of the Beast, seriously. If Hallowed Be Thy Name doesn't turn you into a self-molesting Maiden freak, nothing will.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

You have four for Piece of Mind and one for Number of the Beast.

Make the right choice.

Thrice - The Artist In The Ambulance / Vheissu
Beggars is Thrice's best album...

I HIGHLY disagree.  I can understand where you're coming from, but I will take The Artist in the Ambulance or Vheissu over Beggars any day.  They are extremely different albums, but I can't get into Beggars nearly as much.

Another great choice. Definitely one of those two. You're probably familiar with at least three or four songs of TNOTB already, so that's the place I see people usually start.

And with Judas Priest, Screaming For Vengeance is another good starting point.
