Wow, haven't followed this band for a long time, but them breaking up is too bad.

Also, reading up on this thread, I wonder how thay Chicago show ended up being? I sure as hell wouldn't appreciate it either if I paid for a show and the singer was in advance like "well, I don't feel good yet but I'll try my best and in the meantime you guys just make a lot of noise to compensate!".

And unfortunately I think the latest album is really bad. But I never checked out Bloodstone and Diamonds, so will do that.

The show was great. You couldn’t even tell he was sick. Great energy and performances from all.

I’m confused. Everywhere else it says they’re breaking up, but in the video Robb said that he’ll see what the future holds for him and Jared. Which is it?

To me it sounds like they might collaborate in the future, but not under the name Machine Head.

I felt like it is the opposite.  Rob says in the video that this tour will "celebrate this lineup of Machine Head" and to me, the word "lineup" is the most important in that phrase.  To me, hes not saying that they will celebrate the full career of the band, but that they will send these guys off in a farewell and maybe he and Jared will continue.

Machine Head just posted this on their Facebook page.  Celebration of the band lineup, not the farewell of the band.

Quote
DAVE AND PHIL TO EXIT MACHINE HEAD⠀
After 23 years with Dave McClain pounding the skins at the drum throne, and 15 years with Phil Demmel shredding the guitar on stage right, both members have decided to move on from Machine Head and open a new chapter in their lives.⠀

The upcoming Freaks & Zeroes Tour of North America (that starts this Thursday in Sacramento, CA) is still happening, and will be a celebration of the music that the line-up have created throughout the years.  The split is amicable, and the guys are looking forward to playing these very special shows for the Head Cases of North America and ending this era on a positive and classy note.⠀

Head to our YouTube page to watch Robb's emotional announcement.⠀

To clarify: this is the Farewell Tour of this line-up of Machine Head, not the Farewell Tour of Machine Head, as has been reported in the media.  ⠀

Machine Head wish to thank Phil and Dave for their significant contributions to the band, both musically and lyrically, as well for the spirit, genuine passion they infused into the music, and legendary live performances brought along the way.   ⠀

Machine Head ask that you, the Head Cases, the Freaks & Zeroes, the Lion Hearts of America, come down and have a drink (or 5), a joint (or 3), rage at the shows, let your freak-flag-fly, and celebrate this unique moment in time with us.  ⠀

Thank you friends,⠀

- Machine Head⠀

Technically, he's been the sole original member since Bloodstone and Diamonds. That was the first album without Adam. Dave joined on the second album and Phil joined on their fifth.

They are more Megadeth/Iced Earth then I had realized.

See? MH will carry on. Robb and Jared will find 2 new (hopefully awesome players), and will release a (hopefully) awesome album that will rip Catharsis to pieces.

Definitely showed personal growth by admitting that. Would have been nice if it didn't take this to bring it.

I'm wondering if this ends up like when Shawn and Chris quit Megadeth. They felt stifled and locked out of the writing process so they quit and formed their own band.

Catharsis was an odd record. I hated it initially but with repeated listens I came to enjoy it.

Dave and Phil probably didn't like Catharsis at all.

Agree with the last two posts. I enjoy some of Catharsis, but not nearly as much as most of their other albums. I always had the impression that Catharsis was all about Robb and the direction he wanted to go, but not so much the other guys in the band.

I've lost track of this band with the last couple of albums, but love their earlier stuff.  Good to see that it looks like they are handling all of whatever is going on like men.

Even though I'm a fan, I must ask, would many really actually care if Dave did decide to call it quits on the band?  maybe I've just lost too much touch with them.

So, Robb got Logan and Chris back to go out and perform Burn My Eyes in its entirety. Doesn't sound like they are necessarily back in the band, but that Robb might be biding his time until he figures out what to do.

http://bravewords.com/news/machine-head-announce-burn-my-eyes-25th-anniversary-tour-featuring-original-members-robb-flynn-logan-madder-and-chris-kontos-announcement-video-streaming

I also saw a quote from Phil somewhere and he said he wasn't really involved in the writing of Catharsis at all and that he absolutely hated it. He said MH had turned into a Robb solo act.

I’m impressed that he was able to rally those guys in such a short amount of time, it’s like he never missed a beat. I wonder if he’ll try and persuade them to rejoin permanently.

From what I understand, this is a 25th year reunion tour of the album and Kontos & Mader are not official members of the band. Adam Duce isn't in the mix probably because he was fired back in 2013 and he filed a lawsuit against the band in 2014 that was settled out of court. Who knows what the settlement was but the language in the settlement may prevent Duce and Flynn or Machine Head to work together. Or, Duce just said no to the offer. Just speculating on that.

I'm extremely curious to see how this works out. I think Robb Flynn understands how big of an album Burn My Eyes is and the sentimental 25 year mark is a big thing. Bringing on the players (sans Duce) for the anniversary would excite people and may bring people out to shows.

I enjoy the music but I'm not a fan of Flynn. His ego is huge and he comes across as kind of a jerk. If he's worked it out with Mader and Kontos so they can at least be civil, then the tour should go well if those guys can still play. If crap starts to happen, then it will be shut down.

So they released a studio performance of Davidian and they look good. They also released more details on the band status. Robb is going to be introducing 2 new members soon and they will apparently make up the future Machine Head. The shows will be 2 sets. First set will be with the new members playing various songs from the band. Set 2 will be Burn My Eyes with Kontos and Mader.

http://bravewords.com/news/machine-head-classic-lineup-re-records-debut-album-davidian-live-in-the-studio-video-streaming

Building on their wildly popular An Evening With… format, these not-to-be-missed shows will be a three-hour musical extravaganza, comprised of two parts:

Part I - will feature a battery of Machine Head’s modern classics, such as "Imperium", "Halo", and "The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears", featuring frontman/guitarist Robb Flynn and bassist Jared MacEachern performing alongside two, soon-to-be-announced, ragers on guitar and drums.

Part II - will feature the Bay Area band’s classic debut album, Burn My Eyes played in its entirety for the first time ever. And if somehow this historical event could not be monumental enough, taking the stage for this part of the set will be Burn My Eyes-era alumni and Machine Head’s original drummer Chris Kontos and original guitarist, Logan Mader.

That's cool. I wonder if Robb wanted Kontos and Mader back in the band full time and they declined or this was always an anniversary thing in Robb's mind. Seems like a lot of $$ to pay since the tour will involve 6 total musicians.

Back up plan - if it doesn't work after a few shows with Kontos & Mader, Robb kicks them out and has the new lineup play burn my eyes.

Anyone heard the 3 new songs they released. They are actually good!

I've been a big fan for years but can't think of a single song I've liked since Bloodstone & Diamonds. These three new songs give me hope Rob has still got it in him.

All three songs have their moments but Become the Firestorm is the best of the bunch. The last two minutes feel like they wouldn't have been out of place on The Blackening!

Man, now here's a band that I've always struggled with.

Bought 'More Things Change' back when I was like 16 and loved it. Obviously, 'Burn my Eyes' only served to clinch that Machine Head were one of my all-time favorite bands.

Then, well, then Robb kinda chased his tail for a couple of records, and as far as I was concerned, the band were no longer something I needed to check out.

But then...well, you guys all know the rest. I mean, 'The Blackening' is one of my all-time favorite metal records.

Honestly, Robb kinda reminds me of this guy I was in a band with once. Dude was a really creative guy, but was so malleable. He'd buy a new Korn cd and the next thing you knew he wanted us to tune down and do away with the solos. He'd buy a Foo Fighters cd and the next thing you knew, he'd want us to focus on 'short and snappy' rockers. It was like, you could always tell what he was listening to, bc he's was always trying to push the band in that direction. As opposed to just letting us be 'us.'

Reading Phil's interviews over the past few years, my heart totally goes out to the guy.

Still...these new tracks sound great!

The new record smokes - huge riffs all over the place.  I haven't cared for Machine Head's output since Locust, but this one is kicking my ass.  Definitely the best since The Blackening.

Yea it's pretty good. I actually quite liked Bloodstone & Diamonds and was going to say it's their best since then, but realised the only album between the two is Catharsis, which was terrible.

I really like some of Unto the Locust so not sure I'd say it's best since The Blackening, but it certainly feels more in the same vein as The Blackening. It could seriously make it into my top 10 of the year.

Standout song at this point? Become the Firestorm!

I forgot to pre-order this and now Amazon says delivery wouldn't be until the end of September(???). Disc seems to have sold well. Just have to wait until it gets back in stock. I did like all of the tracks they released as singles/EP over the last couple of years so I am looking forward to it.

Went to get the Megadeth on the weekend and decided to grab this also.  I'm glad I did because this album is fucking sensational.  Only one listen but definitely could be up there with the Blackening.  Crushing album!  :metal

MACHINE HEAD - CHØKE ØN THE ASHES ØF YØUR HATE

That's some good ol' trash!  :metal

Hmmmmm....not sure about this one.

Funny how things work, loved it on first listen here to the full album.

The new record smokes - huge riffs all over the place.  I haven't cared for Machine Head's output since Locust, but this one is kicking my ass.  Definitely the best since The Blackening.

Finally got around to this and the above pretty much says it all. This is a fantastic album.
beul ni teh efac = Lube In The Face / That has to be wrong.  :lol / EDIT: Oh, it's Blue! I'm an idiot.
Pardon the interruption, but I just had to run in and celebrate the majesty of Lube in the Face as highest moment in roulette history
