Saying hello and offering up the tunes!
« on: August 25, 2010, 10:01:18 AM »
Hello all.  First time poster, longtime lurker here.

Just wanted to introduce myself.  My name is Alex, and I'm a music instructor in central Florida.  I have a band. :)  That band is Sympathy From The Stars.  We've been working on a record for the better part of this year, and it's finally almost done.  Looking for a late fall release.

If you like, you can check out a couple teasers, and couple unreleased tracks at our Youtube channel here.  www.youtube.com/user/sympathyfromthestars

If you like THAT, then you can find us on facebook and myspace.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sympathy-From-The-Stars/111028365610130

www.myspace.com/sympathyfromthestars
Thanks, and I look forward to finally joining in on the discussions! :)

Alex

Welcome.  As you've no doubt noticed from lurking, this place is a lot of fun.  Enjoy!

A couple things you may or may not have already gathered:

Never dis Y&T
TAC LOVES Winger
Never disrespect Egypt
If shirtless Zeltar shows up in a thread, alert the authorities
Every DT album is simultaneously the most beloved and most hated thing they've ever done
TEH RIVER!
The DT-side chat is generally where the fogeys hang out, the Gen. Discussion-side chat is where everyone else hangs out

I'm sure there's plenty of other things you might want to know, that I've forgotten, but someone will likely fill in the blanks.

Meh.

But it's always good to have a new poster.

Well, at that point, Super Dude had suggested changing it to read "Count of Tuscany"  I figured I'd do up one that was a compromise.  But the original was definitely better.

Cynic much? :)

I've seen Dream Theater 3 times in the last 2 years, am a regular poster on the petrucciforum, and am in general a fairly chatty sarcastic sob.  Found this forum from the Portnoy forum a couple years ago, and have been reading it since.

If you want to check out my music, that's awesome; I'd appreciate it, but that's hardly why I registered.  Just thought it might be nice to let people know what I do, because as musicians, isn't that what we all try to accomplish?  Get our stuff out there.  If you don't want to check out my music, cool too; I do it for myself first and foremost.  If others enjoy it that's rad.  Teaching pays the bills anyway :)

Thanks for the welcome everyone, hopefully I don't come off as too much of an s.o.b. right off the bat.  I will catch you guys later on; gotta go teach the kiddies what teh shred is  :tup

Sincerely,
Sarcastic Alex

I remember I had a post for the member who was "JR's spiritual advisor" explaining everything here.  Can't seem to find it though.  Stupid crash.

Welcome to the forums!  Don't cross the crooked step, and be on alert for these posters:

Nick
Arcaeus
Icysk8r
703198428945
Darkes7
BRGM

They are the Sinister Six of Fail.  Contact the authorities if you see them.

Darkes7 ragequit, are we the Fiendish Five of Fail now?

Or the Failsome Five of Fail if the redundancy would help drive home the "fail" part.

Alternatively we can elect FinkPloyd as Darkes7's replacement.

I actually have two teenage students that are into Paul Gilbert and that is a good thing :)

That comic strip is hilarious; swear I've seen it somewhere before.

SUCKING ON HIS PIPE

This is especially funny to me, because my wife loves this song, but she jokes everytime that line comes up that James is singing "sucking on ass pipe".  Cracks me up every time.
