The Alchemy Index has just been one enormous hit with no misses for me so far. I guess I'll try Beggars after this has sunk in.

You say you don't "get" Thrice after quoting a song I could listen to for a week straight and not get tired of?  I am confused.

The impossible question. What will be the style for the next Thrice album?

yeah I take it back, I dig this. I can't put my finger on why, but I get a TDH vibe from some of it.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think Thrice has overtaken Opeth and PT as my favorite artist.

And on a tangential note, I'm gonna do a top 50 albums list in the near future. I haven't done any kind of 'big' lists, they've all just been top 20. Should be interesting, at least for me.

Did you hear that? What was it? Oh, that was the sound of Steven Wilson's heart breaking.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

Opeth I can understand.  I still love Opeth more than Thrice right now, mostly because its autumn/winter, which is prime Opeth listening time.

But PT?

This is blasphemy.  BURN THE WITCH!

Thrice is fantastic, but i don't think they'll ever be more then "just" a top10 band for me.
Reason being that i'm not that fond of their early style, which kinda rules out half of the discography. :P

I don't see how one could prefer Thrice to PT. Opeth, yes, but PT no way for me.

I'm gonna be completely honest here.

I listened to several songs off The Alchemy Index, and I don't get it. I didn't dislike what I heard, but damn, I tried really hard to understand why you're all cumming buckets over it and I just can't figure it out. Daedalus in particular was entirely underwhelming. I dunno. Maybe I'm not listening right. Could the problem be that I didn't listen to The Alchemy Index all the way through?

A lot of bands are like this though. You don't get them at first but after so many listens they're suddenly awesome. I find this to be especially true of bands that utilize harsh vocals.

I flat out didn't get Daedalus' appeal for a while, but I really did get into it within a week or two. Also, Digital Sea's chorus is the most immediately appealing thing I've ever heard! I say persevere for a while longer, it really did seem unremarkable to me at first (except the Water EP)

I tried listening to some Thrice today, it was alright but didn't seem that great  :-\ I'll keep going with it though, 'cos music tends to really grow on me.

Or you're just a terrible person. Honestly I have no idea. The first time I ever heard Thrice was a few years ago where I blind-played Daedalus on my radio show, simply because I had heard they were a good band and Daedalus was a character/AI in Deus Ex. I was completely blown away, and have been a huge fan since. So at least for me, I don't think it's necessary to listen to it all the way through.

It's opposite for me. Most of what I like to listen to, I liked immediately upon first hearing it. Music doesn't really grow on me so this doesn't portend well for Thrice. :-\

Weird, the music I like best all took me a while to get into. Sure there are some songs/albums that I like immediately and still like now, but all my top albums took at least a few listens before I got them.

Eh, I'm like Tahlia, I can't remember anything I've really liked from my favourite bands on first listen other than Octavarium and Heartattack In A Layby. I though all of Images & Words and Glass Prison were terrible on my first listens, and I hated Aenima for about five weeks, and it's now a top 5 album for me.  :lol

I'm not too familiar with a decent amount of these bands, but they sound pretty cool. And of course Agalloch, Pain of Salvation, and Devin Townsend are awesome  :tup

I wanna do a list like this, but I don't think I'm too familiar 'round these parts to have any real followers  :P
