I will say, I wish the USGA would dump FOX and make up with CBS or NBC. I love Joe Buck for some broadcasts but it just isn't working for me with golf.

I had to come back to this...

I would watch every single tournament called by ONLY Joe Buck if it meant I didn't have to listen to Paul Azinger and Brad Faxon during our national championship. Just because these guys were good golfers doesn't make them good at filling air time with TALK.  And they're not the only ones, but by far the worst. I would also throw out Johnny Miller, Rich Lerner, and Him Nantz. All those guys ran out of original material years ago. All the on course reporters on all the networks are great. Justin Leonard, Trevor Immelmal, David Duval (he seems to have ramped up his faux enthusiasm which is giving me anxiety when I watch, so a simple suggestion would fix that) are all new and good at what they're doing, and Faldo is still a great commentator, along with Terry Gannon.

Every single word of this is gospel. Memorize it, kids. There will be tests...and... a sinister plot to get a back alley egoectemy for Nantz. We'll be accepting applications.

Open Championship woot woot!

I love me a brown golf course (That's so racist! lol), even though in Florida I've never played one lol. I'm excited to see the guys not go with the standard "iron off the tee" approach, kinda like Thomas Pieters driving the first green from 393! They didn't show the shot, but how much time did that spend on the ground lol?

I've been recording it since 1 am my time, and coverage is on until 4, so that's a solid 15 hrs of golf I get to watch today lol. Gotta love the DVR and FF thru what you don't want to see, or just watching at 2x and still seeing everything.

Spieth is an interesting player isn't he. His intensity gives him hyper-focus when he's playing well and is one of the most exciting player to watch. The other side of the coin is when things start to go south on him you can almost see his doubt grow. His back-swing starts getting quick and forcing blocks so he overcompensates and gets handsy.

The total opposite of Fowler and Finau. Guys who could probably use a bit more intensity.

Well, looks like Spieth has some of that intensity focused in. And of course Tiger. It's shaping up to be a good Sunday!

Ya, I didn't really expect that post to be so prophetic!  :lol

I'm really looking forward to the coverage later today. The early rounds aren't too exciting, so I'll get my yard work done now so I can be glued to the TV later.

This is pretty awesome.  Six guys tied at -6 right now, and three guys 1 back at -5 including Tiger. Should be a fun finish.

Molinari played the course perfectly, IMO. No real highlight reel stuff, because he never really took risks that would put him in a position to need heroics. Rock steady round and jumped on a few opportunities when the timing was right. Excellent!

Also, he's been on fire for the last couple of months so it's nice to see him close out a major while the iron is hot.

I watched the final 90 minutes or so.  Good stuff.  Nice to see Tiger with a top-5 finish.

He tied for 6th technically, but close enough. ;)

For me, it went perfectly.  When Tiger is in contention, it adds an excitement that no other golfer can bring, so we got that, but I do not like seeing him win.  It was win-win for me!  He didn't win and it was an exciting round.

Yep. Outside of pure golf fans........yesterday's final round would have been boring as all get out and probably watched by far less people had Tiger not been in the tournament...much less in contention.

Despite not being the 'best' player in golf any longer he is still by far and away the top draw in golf and probably will be for the next 5-10 years. He's going to win again....he'll beat the all time PGA tour victory total and he will probably win another two or three majors before it's all said and done.

I could care less about his personal crap. Near every athlete and/or 'celebrity' out there has some shady stuff going on the background...that's just the nature of the beast of being in the limelight and being used to getting what you want. I just enjoy the heck out of watching him play golf and like it even more when he wins.

The tour championship had a great start yesterday! I'm really look forward to the coverage today to see if Fowler and Woods can maintain their lead. Rose and Finau look good too and have much higher starting positions so good rounds today could really set them up for the weekend.

Mickelson looks pretty shaky and I'm really worried that he'll be a drag on the Ryder Cup team. Maybe Coach Furyk will use Phil more as a coach than a playing partner.

Fun rounds today. I wouldn't be surprised to see Woods win the tournament, but it's looking more and more like Rose will hoist the FedEx Cup, unless...Finau can shoot a 64 tomorrow. I won't hold my breath though.

Very disappointing to see Fowler fold again. Dude was -7 at the turn.

That's was a lot of fun to watch, and it looks like it will continue into the weekend. I honestly can't pick any winners yet. This is a big time tourney and you never know whose putts are gonna fall and whose aren't. That being said, I'm from Florida and very familiar with Bermuda  :eek. Those greens look amazingly smooth...

Ryder Cup!

The coverage start at Midnight my time so I've got the DVR set to record. I'll probably get up around 4:00 and try to get as much watching in before I head to the office. I'll probably be pretty bleary-eyed tomorrow. :vfs:

Anyone else (whose name doesn't start with TAC) have plans to watch?

I am a casual golf fan. I'll follow the big tournaments, catch the majors on TV when I can. I always follow the the Ryder Cup, but every time I will at some point turn it on just to check the scores, and then invariably get wrapped up in the awesomeness that it usually turns in to.

I still don't know what to make of Tiger's win. I am happy for him, and happy for the sport. Despite always saying I like watching greatness, when he was in his prime I had the occasional "c'mon will someone else win this tournament please!" thought (I was heavily rooting for Rocco Mediate at the US Open in 2008. He seemed like such a cool guy, and that was probably going to be his best and last shot at winning a major, and to slay the giant in the process would have made for great drama). Anyway, I felt bad for Tiger, trying to reconcile the fact that he made some horrible decisions, that he was set up to attain unreachable heights by his family from such a young age, and that injuries took their toll on his body. I recall reading his mom said he would have more impact on the world than people like Mandela and Gandhi. That's a pretty big expection to lay on your kid. I also read he asked Derek Jeter how to approach girls due to his socially awkwardness. To which Jeter replied "You go up to them and say you are Tiger Woods." (I can't recall where I read that. I swear it was Jeter but I could be mistaken).

Anyway, good for him for getting back to the mountaintop.

That'll do nicely.

Delighted for Garcia in particular, surpassing Faldo to become Europe's highest points winner. Molinari steady as a rock as usual, what a run of form he's in. Ian Poulter continues his status as a legendary Ryder Cup specialist (the opposite of Tiger you might say, who even in his prime never seemed to turn up for it). Really pleased to win back the trophy in emphatic style.

Great win! I'm usually quite pessimistic over Europe's chances because of how good the American teams always look on paper and this year it looked to be one of their best ever. Plus they had Tiger back in great form and coming off the back of Hazeltine when they seemed to get things right again.

But the team spirit and the setup of the course were key for Europe. We went on a tear from 3-0 down and I think won 8 matches in a row. That was vital to give us the cushion going in to the singles, because even with such a big lead, there were still points where it looked like things could be turning towards the USA today.

Pleased that the whole team got at least a point and great to see Sergio becoming our record points scorer, especially after the tough year he's had.

Great win for team Europe! What a fantastic course with a perfect Ryder Cup atmosphere. I loved the "ole's" during the practice swings. Cracked me up.

The Fleetwood/Molinari pairing was fun as hell to watch. I find it quite charming that Fleetwood wants to hug everybody. He even stood on his tip-toes to get a hug from Finau after Tony finished him off in the singles competition. The look on Finau's face was slightly startled.  :lol

Unless team USA finds a way to get in practices for the Foursomes (alternate shot) competition over then next couple of years I think team Euro has a great shot at hanging on to the cup at Whistling Straits in 2020. That course seems to reward straight ball hitters as well.

It's been painfully obvious for the past 25 years that the Ryder Cup 'matters' more to the Euros.  WAAAAAYYYY more.  It's not an issue of talent - look at how well the US does in the President's Cup... just one tie, and one int'l win (and it usually isn't even close) in the 13 events.

But every single one of the Euros 'show up' for the Ryder Cup... every time; the US does not.  And now that the talent is much closer than it was in the 20th century (on paper, the US is almost always the 'better' collection of players), it's more a matter of will and desire.

Watching the highlights reminds me how Ryder Cup celebrations are probably my favorite of any team sport. For some reason the sheer joy and bliss shines through more than after any other championship victory.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_CpD27pclQ&feature=youtu.be&t=2m25s

Casual Ryder Cup fan as I said, but seeing Olazabal in 2012 made me realize how much this can mean to these guys. Obviously to him it was about something more, but he called the feeling when Kaymer(?) sank his final put the greatest moment of his life.
