I find it kinda interesting that Tiger is the next President's Cup captain. I have to imagine that he believes he can make that team as a player. I'm not sure I would disagree. Time will tell what his health and game are gonna be like, but he has to think to himself and that he can still be at/near the top of the game.

If he remains healthy I don’t see how you don’t have him play.

It sucks for dieheard fans like my dad who love to watch golf and get annoyed how it gets turned into the Tiger Show, all for ratings and to appease the millions of "fans" who freely admit that they wouldn't give a crap about golf if Tiger wasn't there.

Personally, I like watching just to see him lose.

I was in to golf prior to Tiger....which is why I became enthralled with him. It was just unreal how dominant he was for well over a decade.

Just saw on Morning Drive from MSNBC:

Nike's brand marketing value of Tiger's performance at Valspar:
GOLF channel/NBC - $3.8 million
TV local/nat'l/int'l - $1.2 million
Online - $4.1 million
Twitter - $1.7 million
Total overall value for Nike - $10.8 million

My favorite week of the year is here...... The Masters! I can't wait to see the azaleas!

Great weekend of golf leading in. Ian Poulter winning is a great story. That putt was clutch... whatta ya know? And it's still not over for the ladies at the ANA. Watching them playoff in the dark was super exciting, but I just can't see how Inbee loses this.

Even my wife likes watching The Masters with me!

That was dope. That's how you become #1 in the world again. And he's looking damn good to be the first to win the week before, and then win the US Open. I'm super excited for this week.  :corn

Yeah, Shinnecock Hills has produced some really compelling golf in the past. I'll never forget watching Ratief rolling in long puts across the dead grass by barely breathing on them. I'm really looking forward to it as well.

So, the USGA's website for the US Open is pretty cool. I've been watching the flyovers for each hole to get a feel for the course. This could get pretty brutal if the wind picks up.

https://www.usopen.com/course/1.html

Edit:

Check out this video of how fast the greens are at Shinnecock Hills  :omg:

I will say, I wish the USGA would dump FOX and make up with CBS or NBC. I love Joe Buck for some broadcasts but it just isn't working for me with golf.

Geez, hole #2 252 yards, slight uphill into the wind, par 3.   I would have to hit a driver.

I especially enjoy the "GET IN THE HOLE" screamed 1 planck time after Tiger tees off on 460 yard par 4.  But that happens everywhere.

Yesterday afternoon, while Phil was standing over his putt, some joker yelled, "Come on Phil, you need this one!" Seriously? I get giving encouragement to you favorite player while they're walking up the fairway but while they're preparing to swing or putt? And I must have heard the caddies telling people to put their cameras/phones on silent mode a dozen times yesterday.

The real story is what a mockery this course has been this week.  I know the US Open thinks they are really clever, always trying to make the course as difficult as possible, but they really shit the bed today.

Yup, they really gave ol' Shep a go. The worst part is that they know better...or at least should have. 2004 Shinnecock Hills was a train wreck too. How do they not account for prevailing winds and have the nerve to look surprised when they show up.  :lol

Anyway, we're going to cheer on Tony Finau our local hero. I think a good strategy might be to not hit into the greens but lay up in front and try to pitch everything close or in.

I imagine after all the bitching from the players, and multiple after round interviews given by Mike Davis to change the narrative on course condition, today will be a little more "playable". That being said, I think the PROs let their ego go too far, and bitch when they can't get it done. The US Open isn't there to make you feel good by rewarding every single shot. I don't care if you think you hit a good shot... if it's not the CORRECT shot. You have to hit the right shot to the right location, and anything less is not rewarded. Welcome to the US Open.

And I kinda "hoped" to wake up and see Phil got the DQ. I don't actually WANT that to happen, but I think it should because it's the right thing to do. It was EGREGIOUS, he knows it, and it seems like from his calling and asking Mike Davis if he should play today that he kinda thinks the same.

What's wrong with Phil? Admit you lost it for a second.  Look human.  Dont tell me that was strategy.

Especially when he'd told his playing partner (Beef) that he lost it and didn't know what would happen. Way to easy to be caught in a lie Phil.

Well, the tournament turned out more compelling than I thought. They did a decent job with the course on Sunday and the players actually had a chance to make a play. Thanks to Tommy Fleetwood for posting a fantastic number early. It really provided tension (in a good way) to watching those players out on the course.

It's hard to wrap my head around thinking about Brooks Koepka being a back to back US Open champ. On two entirely different course setups. Amazing!

I just heard Dr. Gio say, "Phil did what most golfers would do, which is react to the course and playing conditions they are presented with.  Shame on the USGA for putting him in that position." I'm on the fence between thinking this is an egregious breach warranting a DQ, and seeing it as a human act that was a result of the circumstances...

And while it ended well (Fleetwood!), the Live From crew had it right. The end doesn't justify the means, and unfortunately Saturday will get the attention in the future.
