Complaining about Bootsie missing the list would be like complaining about Elvis not making the vocalist list.
I know, right?

No.  They're not at all the same.  I get it, you don't listen to either and so they're both a mystery, but based on something I noted in the singer thread:  John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant, Elton John, some of the greatest singers of the rock genre from the 70's ALL had stories about wanting to meet Elvis (or actually doing so).  He was a PRIME influence in some of those guys.   You could see it, clear as day, in the mannerisms, the movements, the inflections...   Freddie and Robert both copped moves DIRECTLY from Elvis, unashamedly.

Add to that Elvis' popularity in his own right, and you've got an icon for the ages.

Bootsy is awesome, he's influential, but not at that level.   Not even close.  Hell, TAC even knows who Elvis is.
Stads, this may be difficult for you to understand, but this was a joke.

Okay.  I have a sense of humor.  :) :)

One thing I was just pondering is that it's rare for bass to actually sound bad.  I tend to have all sorts of issues with vocal timbre, guitar tone, inauthentic keyboard sounds, drum production, but the worst thing about bass usually is just when it's mixed too low to hear.

Opeth's Sorceress album might change your mind.  Muddiest mix I've ever heard, and the bass is the primary offender.

LOW on my list (sorry, HOF).  I'm definitively Team Brian, and that song just reminds me too much of Mike Love.

Same.  I might be able to NAME 10 BB songs, but that's only because of a commercial for a compilation album that used to run a bunch back in the '80s.  I think this is it:  https://youtu.be/WvQO4tURr5c (I love how it was $1 more for the cassette/8-track version).

Also this happened on the show:

In retrospect it seems kind of odd that these kids were so into The Beach Boys in 1988, but that isn’t too different from a teenager today being into Pearl Jam or Metallica.

Wasn't Full House set in San Francisco?  This was clearly done at the LA Coliseum at (or before or after) a USC game.  Were they on vacation?

Yep, set in SF, but that concert is in LA. Don’t think they explain on the show (or don’t remember if they did). The plot is that DJ wins concert tickets through a radio call in contest, but she has to choose among her dad, Uncle Jesse, and Joey who to take with her. They all act childish and she decides not to go at all. Then The Beach Boys (who were supposed to be on the morning show that Danny hosts) show up at their house and invite the whole family to the show. Happy ending!

I wonder what others we could do in the next year or so, either ones you host, Reaper, or if someone else was up for it.  Keyboardists is an obvious one, but favorite artists and albums could be fun ones as well.

Re: Top 25 Favorite Bassists countdown thread! (RESTARTING!!)
« Reply #91 on: February 13, 2024, 12:40:32 PM »
OK, folks, I'm going to restart this countdown.

Can one of the mods edit the thread title to remove the "on hold" parenthetical?

The rules are the same as for all the other countdowns and as set forth in Kev's original post in this thread, but here they are as a reminder:

Alright, since we have done singers, guitarists and drummers, time to show bassists the proper respect and do them as well!

I will count down the 25 bassists in order, and they will be taken from lists of anyone who wants to send me theirs via PM. Do not post them on the forum here. Send them to me via PM.  I will take all of the lists and come up with the cumulative list and do the countdown from 25 to 1.

The rules:
-Bassists must be listed from 25 to 1 in order (in reverse order), with no ties.  No having three bassists at number 4 or anything like that.  DO NOT list your bassists with the points total. List them in your order (I will figure out the points on my end).
-Any list submitted with the bassists not numbered will be ignored.
-Anyone wanting to submit a list must do so by the end of day, Saturday, March 2, 2024.  I will then begin the countdown shortly thereafter.
-The list will be tallied numerically in a simple way. On each list, whatever bassist is at number 1 gets 25 points, number 2 gets 24 points, number 3 gets 23 points, etc.
-List each bassist by their stage name (first and last name or just one name if it's someone who goes by just one name like Flea; do not send acronyms or just first or last names assuming I will know who you mean).
-PROOFREAD YOUR LISTS BEFORE SENDING THEM.  Any list with the same bassist mentioned twice will be not be counted.

Feel free to post in this thread as well that you have PM'd me, if for no other reason than to bump this back up for others who may want to participate who may not have seen the thread yet.

This ranking engine link below works great if you have too much difficulty making one on your own. You can input all of the bassists you want, and then you pick your favorite of every 1-on-1 matchup and then it spits out your list.

Can I say it's probably easier to ask this thread to be locked and you start a new on pg.

The reason is you can then create your rules, and list on the OP and update that way.

Reasonable.
