Hypothetical DT: Metropolis Part 3
« on: August 08, 2010, 01:42:35 PM »
Just inspired by a YouTube comment to start this topic on what the concept of any potential Metropolis Pt. 3 album would be like. It could involve either the characters from Pt. 2 or even a completely different set of characters, it's entirely up to you. The funnier, the better. This is hypothetical DT, after all; it probably isn't going to happen, so let it rip!

It won't happen.

But for the hell of it... It would be a 17-minute song that is actually about the foundation of Rome (or a derivative of the Aeneid). You know, running with the whole "prequel as a sequel" thing.
... And you ask me: "Where's my hairspray?"

Of course it's not going to happen. That is the whole point. Look at the title.

There's not really much of a story to add on to.

Somebody posted a while ago something like "Metropolis Pt.3: Journey to Starbucks" and they even made a cover. Anyone can find it?

If they were inspired o do so, I'd say go for it. I have no idea where the story could go though.

I'd like it to be Metropolis pt. 1, but written with John's new lyric-writing style, with the story he was trying to tell on Images and Words being amusingly forward and (sometimes painfully) obvious.  ;D

I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

About two incarnations of this board ago, I went all-out and planned out Metropolis Part III:  The Lake of Fire including detailed plot summaries after each track title.  As I recall, I let it get totally out of hand so that by the end it was utterly and completely cheesy and ridiculous in a way that DT has never been, even in their TDEN/TCOT moments.

I wish I still had that.

'We'll meet again my friend, someday soon...'

Metropolis Pt. 3: Lake of Fire

Nick and Vic arrange to meet up for coffee at the Lake of Fire the following Tuesday morning. They turn up without much trouble beforehand

N: I had this strange dream the other night. I dreamt that a prog-metal band have been following our creepy little adventures and decided to set our story to music, in a 77-minute concept album. You were there, your exes were there, and I got hypnotised several times by some freak who wanted to kill me.

V: Hold it now, wait a minute. A progressive METAL band??

N: Creepy, I know. Their drummer was doing all sorts of crazy stuff, and they held our story up with several lengthy instrumental breaks too. Not to mention, their singer was....CANADIAN!

V: Don't be ridiculous! That could never happen...

Eh, why not?  It'll complete the trilogy and no one will ever have to ask that question again.  It's not like they have to out-do themselves in regards to Pt. 2.  They could just make it a single track and wrap it up in about 15 mins or so......or not....whatever.

What trilogy? There is no trilogy. There's nothing to wrap up. They all died, the end. I'm not sure what you have to wrap up after that. Unless you need a song/album about the therapist and nick having coffee and discussing good anal lubes to use.
