Currently opened to listening to some new heavy bands so thought to try Meshuggah, any specific album recommendations?

I would start with both their latest, Obzen, and Nothing.

If you can only go for one, I say listen to Obzen.

obZen is good for the noobs (what else do I have to call them?) because it's their album with most of their previous styles and their newer sound or style in one album.

Or you can go for Chaosphere or Destroy Erase Improve too :D

I think other albums sound much interesting, but ironically, the albums I know best are Catch 33 and 'I'. I've been hanging around with 'Nothing' lately, and it's definately a bit more eclectic. Lovin' it.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

Have yet to listen to Chaosphere and DEI. ObZen and Nothing are really good, tho, specially the latter.

For some reason, that riff makes me think of a cult gathering.

I'm in the middle of Alive right now and...

I have to bring up Straws Pulled At Random now. So the song is excellent from start to half way mark, then from that part til the end is some of the best shit I have heard in a long time. THE SOLO! The solo is absolutely remarkable. I'm in love with this song now even more so than before :O
I would like to learn that solo on guitar now. FUCK.

New Thordendal album hopefully out this year! It was going to be put out in 2010 but that didn't happen.
I heard Chaosphere like a week ago and it's maybe the best album. You can say that about every album though. :lol

Random mention of Straws Pulled At Random :metal :metal

Oh and how about Bleed and Dancers To A Discordant System. I've said too much.

Bleed might be their most known song, but it's so good it never gets old. Maybe it's because of DAT RIFF :2metal:

I liked it before I found out it was a single and one of their most known songs :lol

You'll end up knowing a good song when you hear one. And that said, the riff is indeed :metal

Pravus :metal :metal The breakdown  :metal :metal :metal
Jesus Christ himself* comes down amidst a choir of 2 billion angels singing Handel's Hallelujah chorus. As KrotchRaut shred randomly on guitars made of dragon bones using picks made from God's kidney stones, Jesus heals a blind woman who promptly gives birth onstage to a creation of pure light.

*Yes, Jesus Christ himself. Nothing less will do.

"Unanything" should have been on Chaosphere proper (not just the Japanese edition). really adds great pacing to an otherwise (brilliant, but) dynamic-less album.

I think it's time to revive this thread.

Meshuggah, probably the heaviest band in the existence. I've been listening to them from time to time since last year but now I'm fully hooked to their stuff. I, Catch 33, Chaosphere, Nothing... Pure genius. And just so this post won't be all about me praising Meshuggah endlessly, https://studiorock.ro/interviews/interview-with-marten-hagstrom-of-meshuggah-17/

Quote
Let's start by asking what's happening in the life of Meshuggah
MH: Right now we are doing these summer festivals, about 12 or something and then we'll probably try to finish up an album. The next album is coming along and we're looking to finish it in the fall or winter and Nuclear Blast plans to release it in March, as that's the schedule.

I dig their heavier stuff more than their DEI and None stuffs. The only songs I like from DEI are Future Breed and Soul Burn frankly. I don't really like Obzen either.

Still a top 5 band for me, kept that status from when I actually got into them. Organic Shadows is a fucking masterpiece.

Nothing has really cool music in it, but I still can't get used to the production. Crashes are too sharp imo. And the guitar's not loud enough. But once I get past this issue I'm pretty sure I'll love it. But so far Catch 33 is my favorite Meshuggah album.

I have both Nothing releases, I can appreciate the original mix but the re-release was bloody off the hook.

Yeah and it sounds utterly superior to the original. I like both but prefer the remix/re-recorded Nothing just a bit more.

A friend recommended me Catch 33 the other day since I've been interested in checking this band.

Damn, what a good album.
