One of the best thrash songs ever:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qiu3Xg83YSk

Although I love F&J  I think after the first 2 albums they kind of gave up on the thrash sound and went for a more traditional metal sound

This video is pure cheese but also pure Thrash by them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsGHlTLmCP0&feature=related

Saw Kreator last year in Slovenia. Was MetaL. Shadows Fall aren't a thrash band, more like metalcore.

Municipal Waste are a good shout, although they verge on hardcore and punk, but for a good no fuckin nonsense modern day thrash band you can't beat Evile. And they're English!  :metal :metal I was lucky enough to see them last year just a few days before their bassist died, and it was one of the most intense shows I've ever seen. Hopefully they'll return with another great album soon. They play so freakin fast!  :metal :metal

Annihilator's recent stuff would be perfectly acceptable if it wasn't for that god-forsaken vocalist. But yes, Never Neverland is the best, followed by Alice in Hell. Criminally underrated thrash right there.

Cheers, should I consider going to see them live if I like them or would it be a disappointing experience?

I saw Municipal Waste live once. Can't say I was at all impressed. A bit too punk/hardcore for me.

I have however seen both Evile and Kreator live before. Both kick ass bands.

I completely agree.

One of the main problems that I have with Thrash Metal is that it gets too repetitive. That's why I haven't found anything interesting in Destruction yet: they don't add something original to the genre and all the songs sound the same. However, there are some bands that even when sounding kinda generic are still fucking awesome. Speaking of which....

I think I like them because they were one of the first bands to merge Thrash Metal with Death Metal. And Death/Thrash Metal is one of the best fucking Metal subgenre unions of all time.

One of my favorite genres of metal. I listen to Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Nevermore, Iced Earth, Municipal Waste, Kreator, Exodus, and Testament, primarily. Seen Metallica live, seeing Megadeth, Slayer, and Testament in five days, and seeing Iced Earth next month.

My bad, I meant to say Testament. I might be seeing the second leg though, and if I do, I'll be going backstage because my friend's Frank Bello's nephew and Charlie Benante's great nephew  :metal.

Fucker. I sadly have no connection to Anthrax that I'm aware of.
I wonder if I'll even get a chance to see them within the next year. They haven't played New England in any lineup since opening for Priest back in the fall of '05. That's lame.

Although it'd be sweet to get backstage and meet Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax (without having to pay for VIP packages), I'd be seeing almost the same show from Megadeth and Slayer, as they'll both still be playing their landmark 1990 records, so I'd really be paying to see Anthrax play Among The Living, and probably no other songs, because they're opening. We'll see as it approaches though.

MAX CAVALERA Says PAULO JR. Didn't Play Bass On Any Early SEPULTURA Recordings

https://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=150369

Quote
Revolver: SEPULTURA in their current lineup recently announced they'd be playing the album "Arise" in its entirety. But weren't you the primary writer for SEPULTURA around then?

Max: At home I did the same style of writing I do with SOULFLY. I give credit to the guys. Igor came up with a lot of the original beats, like to "Territory". As we got better, he played better. The only musician that didn't improve much at the time was Paulo [Jr., bass]. I think the first album he recorded for was "Roots". Everything else was me and Andreas [Kisser, guitar] doing the bass because he couldn't really play that good. But we were friends, so we were like, "Yeah you can stay in the band, we won't kick you out. When we play, we'll just turn you really down so nobody hears."

Uhm...lol. I'm not sure I fully believe this.

The bass was never really a prominent factor in Sepultura's music. I'm looking for some live vids of the BTR era to see if Paulo's just going through the motions.

Also, thrash metal = the best metal.

This isn't all that uncommon. Iced Earth and Danzig did the same thing (and Yngwie is up front on his records). The live bassist rarely plays on records it seems. To save cost and time of course, as studios are expensive, and if the bass is solely following the root notes of the guitar, by bother? I know its the principal of it all. But it happens. A lot.

Wish I could give recommendations about the current thrash bands, but having grown up with the entire initial movement, I really haven't found any of the new bands to my liking.

Lots and Lots of great recommendations in this thread already for the old school thrash bands..can't really go wrong with any of them
