EDIT: Never mind.

Me too.  It's okay, but a disappointing end to an amazing album.

I like Coming Home a lot, it reminds me of Snuff by Slipknot with the keyboard patches and melodies they use. It's a nice calm outro to ease you out of all that metal.

I think Coming Home is probably the best track on the album. That's the soft one right?

But that's probably because I've been listening to almost nothing but classical, celtic and new age music for the past month.

I like it a lot, as well.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I find Static Impulse to be a very enjoyable album so far. I have to listen to it a bit more, but I like what I've been hearing. Euphoric, One More Time and I Tried are among my favourites at the moment.

I Tried reminds me of The Killers in a way. I think it's mainly because of the keyboard sound. That's definately in the top 5 on the album for me.

The album has really grown on me. I find my opinion goes up when I look at it as individual tracks rather than as an album.

Over the Edge solo section

This is probably my fav part of the album.  Marco's section in particular is amazing.

Didn't blow me away the first time through, but I'm halfway through it again and liking it a lot better. That's pretty normal when I listen to albums I guess.

Really liked Coming Home.

Oh yeah!!

But I don't know when they'd do it.  They'd have to do it after DT11's tour.

Interesting.  I remember James said that it would be tricky considering DT's new album/tour cycle.  Will be interesting to see what it is.

Maybe James' solo band will be opening for DT on their next tour.
Though, two sets every night might be a bit much for James.

I've been thinking about this for a while now...

I really like Static impulse. Being a huge Dream Theater fan, I needed to check it out. It has a cool feeling throughout and James did a fabulous job. In fact, pretty much every day I play at least one song from Static impulse.

The problem is this, the tunes are great, the general vibe is bad ass, but what makes this album for me is of course LaBrie. I've never been a fan of this kind of modern metal music. I'm quite an oldschool guy, and heavy, power and progressive metal is what I'm into the most when it comes to metal. So I wonder if anyone can recommend me another metal band that plays similar style to what can be heard on Static impulse. I hope I'll be able to enjoy this kind of music with someone else singing.

Soilwork. They have released albums far better than Static Impulse (IMO) and before it. I strongly recommend Natural Born Chaos ("As We Speak" was a song that got me hooked to them) and for a softer album, Figure Number Five (Don't like that album that much TBH, but for what it is, it's decent)

Soilwork is probably the best bet.   Essential albums are Natural Born Chaos, Figure Number Five, A Predators Portrait and Chainheart Machine.  One of my all time favourite bands.

They are a little more extreme than SI but have amazing songs.  Pretty similar songs in the vein of One More Time I guess.  Check these;

These tracks sound interesting, I'm glad it's some melodic stuff. The vocals are slightly more aggressive, but I think I'll be able to enjoy this.
