James comments on the lyrics at his forum:
Quote
Hi Everyone,

Speculative takes on some of the lyrics... Grin

If you may let me clarify a couple. Euphoric is not about dating an overweigh girl.  This is about finding someone who in the eyes of the beholder is their 10 without falling into a category that the media would like you to think a perfect 10 is, such as these model, skeletal, sick looking chics. To each his own but no thanks.  Also that ones personality and character doesn't work for everyone ( a bit odd or eccentric ) but if it does for you, then that's all that matters.
Coming Home was inspired by the show Dexter who is a vigilante serial killer. I took the liberties to take this character and have him in the position of incarceration confessing to the very people who helped him to become more connected to the human emotional spectrum. At the same time he has accepted his sentence, which is death by lethal injection.  He asks his family for forgiveness. He wants them to know that he is grateful for giving him a life of normalcy, love and awakening and that he truly regrets the dishonesty.

There you have it.

Take care my friends,

James.

Tour is off- from James' twitter

Hey Everyone,
Yes it's unfortunately true. We ran into a big snag with immigration and work visas so at this point we had no option but to cancel. This is a big blow to all of us in the band. I feel sick about this. We have such an incredible band and there was nothing more we wanted to do than play this for the fans. It's not good no matter how u look at this. I am deeply sorry and will do all I can to make this up to you on e we figure it out.
Peace,
James.

Sounds bizarre. How could they have a problem with work Visas? If someone really did, couldn't they just find a replacement? So weird. Anyway...

Just heard about this from a guy I know whose band was going to open for JLB at the Raleigh NC show.  It kind of sucks, they just found out today they got the opening gig, and then 2 hours later they got the call that the tour is off.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I like the album. The growling vocals are a good combination with JLB's vocals. Anyway, a bit annoying sometimes. My favourite songs are:

Euphoric
I Tried
Just Watch Me
One More Time
Over The Edge
Superstar

Specially "Just watch me"  and "I tried" are wonderful song for me.
I didn't know JLB solo career, so I got Elements of Persuasion too. Another fantastic album. JLB is not just a really talented singer, it is a really talented composer.

I have to re-review my review. This album is AMAZING.
James Labrie is a fantastic composer, not just a fantastic singer. Elements of Persuasion was a really good album.
And this new one, was at the beginning strange to me cause the growling vocals annoyed me a bite. But now, I can't stop listening to this album. There are some songs with growling combined with melodic vocals by James. When I listened to this album for the first times, I liked more the songs where no growling appear. Now it's the contrary. I really love songs like One more time, THIS IS WAR, WHO YOU THINK I AM, Mislead, Jekyll or hyde...

WOW, what a brilliant album. Labrie should compose more songs for DT.

Well, not songs in this vein, but I do think James could contribute some good stuff to the next DT album.  Especially lyrics.  Not sure which songs he wrote lyrics for (besides Euphoric, Coming Home, and Jekyll and Hyde, AFAIK), but they're miles ahead of Prophets of War.

OK, lets try tho rank the tracks...

1. Jekyll or Hyde
2. Who you think I am
3. One last time
4. I need you
5. I tried
6. This is war
7. Just watch me
8. Mislead
9. Coming home
10. Over the edge
11. Euphoric
12. Superstar

All of these are really good, actually. I feel bad for ranking some songs this low...

This album has amazing replay value. Jekyll Or Hyde is the best.

J&H is one of my bottom 3 of this album, I guess that shows how strong it is.

Ranking;

1. I Need You
2. Mislead
3. Over The Edge
4. One More Time
5. Euphoric
6. Just Watch Me
7. I Tried
8. Superstar
9. Who You Think I Am
10. Jekyll or Hyde
11. This Is War
12. Coming Home

This changes often though.

So I've been listening to this album quite a bit and, I have to say, it is surprisingly, very good. Much better than EoP. It took me a while to get used to some of the harsh vocals, but they're used rather well. The only problem I'd say the album has is that it can be very samey at times, but that's alright because the songs are very good and very memorable.

Here's my ranking atm:

1. Mislead
2. One More Time
3. Over the Edge
4. Who You Think I Am
5. Jekyll or Hyde
6. Euphoric
7. This Is War
8. Just Watch Me
9. I Tried
10. Superstar
11. I Need You
12. Coming Home (seems no one really cares for this song much)

Big question

Why are the last two albums under the banner James Labrie when it seems obvious that Matt and James are a duo in the very least when it comes to not only SI and EOP but Mullmuzzler 1 and 2?

SI is a great album although I would have tracked it differently. I would have ended with Just Watch Me right after Coming Home.

James always wanted it to be called James LaBrie, but the label wouldn't let him do that until EoP for some reason. And yeah, I've always thought that "James LaBrie" was kinda a lame name for the project since it's obviously a whole band collaboration. But I guess it's good for sales and stuff. Really, though, JLB could be much more than just a solo project though.

I think what he has with MG, the drummer and guitarist is more than enough to go full-out with a band.

I could have sworn that it was the other way around. He wanted the albums to be released as "Mullmuzzler", but the label felt that his albums would get more exposure as "James LaBrie", which is why the second album is actually called something like "James LaBrie's Mullmuzzler 2" and all subsequent ones have been as "James LaBrie".

Ok I quite liked Elements of Persuasion, so I was looking forward to Static Impulse. But I'm not a fan of screams or growls, and when I heard the sample songs I didn't think they sounded like anything special so the album wasn't high on my list of priorities.

Just gave it more of a listen today and I've came around. Though I'd probably prefer if the screams were gone or at least more sparse, they aren't as predominant as I'd heard they were and sometimes they fit well.

The songs sound catchy, in the way that good metal / rock songs are, and Labrie sounds great. Glad I gave it a try. Sounds like one of the top albums of 2010.
