Yeah but when it comes to catchiness, it has a lot of stiff competition from the rest of the album. :P

That is true. But I can't say it's redundant. I mean, oftentimes bonus tracks end up being filler material that's entirely expendable because there's something sort of like it already on the album. But Why is definitely a unique track, IMO.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I agree that both tracks are very far above average regarding the usual bonus track fare. Both of those songs could (should?) have been part of the full album and not felt out of place at all. I just personally am not in love with Why as much as a lot of others appear to be, although I do still like the song.

Well, it might have something to do with the fact that it IS a bonus track, and there was always a slight chance that it may never have seen the light of day. So it kind of makes people appreciate it a bit more? I dunno.

Played IR in the car for my mom this evening. She REALLY liked it :metal
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Unraveling deserved to be a bonus track IMO, but I think Why should've made the cut instead of Destined to Burn. That said, the whole album is awesome :metal

I Will Not Break is on Spotify already.

Despite including 38 minutes of music, this EP is suprisingly low on content, I think, featuring no new music at all, just bonus songs from previous releases, alternate and re-mixes, and demos.

The demos do provide some insight though, as to how complete the songs were before JLB added his vocals. Also, they definitely make the argument for why JLB needs to be in the band anyway, despite not writing for it.

Okay, I finally got IR as a Christmas present (great gift!) and I seriously have been playing this album almost non-stop since then, just taking a break from it occasionally to listen to a few other CDs I got for Christmas as well.

What a killer album! It's fully of great vocal melodies and all the performances on all the instruments are top notch.  Production-wise it sounds pretty darn good as well, there are some things that get a little buried during some big chorus sections, but nothing major, overall it sounds really good for the style of music they are doing.

Stand out tracks at the moment would probably be: Letting Go, Undertow, Slight of Hand, Back on the Ground, Say You're Still Mine and Amnesia.

Overall though, I can safety say there isn't a song on the entire album that I dislike, I have found myself very rarely skipping any tracks.

I just heard Understand for the first time, and while I understand (lol) why it's not on EOP, I think it could've given the album some needed variety.

EOP remains a mystery to me. It seems very highly regarded, but I only actually liked the three softer tracks. The rest does absolutely nothing for me. Maybe I should give it another try...

I absolutely love Slightly Out of Reach (listening to it right now :heart) and songs like Crucify and Drained are great, but a lot of the stuff on the album is pretty forgettable IMO. I think James, Matt and co. found the right formula on SI and perfected it on IR.

Agree. Slightly Out Of Reach is my favorite from EOP, and probably the only one I'd say I love. I used to think I like Static Impulse more than Impermanent Resonance, but I think they're about equal now.

The softer tracks are definitely my favorite from EOP. Slightly out of Reach and Smashed might be my 2 favorite songs on all 3 albums.

Some of the heavy songs on EOP sound like nu metal to my ears, especially Alone and Oblivious. I definitely prefer the melodeath influence on the latest 2 albums.

BTW, does anyone else get a Metallica vibe from Crucify? Of course the 7-strings and keyboards make it more modern, but the melodic intro and the thrashy riffing make me think of songs like Battery.

I honestly don't hear a lot of nu-metal there, and I do enjoy nu-metal quite a bit.

Although, nu-metal is one of those genres that seems very poorly defined, so that may be where the disparity in opinion comes from.

My dad got a new MP3 player and asked me to add some music to it. When I was looking at the "Music" folder, there were some tracks that already are in the player when you buy it and one of them was JLB's Euphoric :D

Yes :metal

I found this old post on James' official FB page:
Quote
Matt Guillory and I are happy to announce that the song "Euphoric" from Static Impulse has been selected by Sony to be pre-loaded on 1,000,000+ (yes, one million plus, and potentially up to 10 million) of their 2011 walkman product line. The first wave has already been released and the next wave should be coming soon. When I get the model names/#'s, I will be sure to post a follow-up here.
So my dad was one of the 1,000,000+ lucky ones :D I bet he'll never listen to the song, though :lol

I was going to ask that it was Sony. I have found a couple Sony tablets demos in various electronic stores.

If you'd said that for EoP or IR maybe, but not for SI.

But it's the thought that counts! Better to have JLB on there at all, than not. :metal

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

I agree. Absolutely love In Too Deep. After a while with IR, I've gotta say it's a strong contender for my favorite Labrie album, but EOP takes the cake still. It's just that perfect blend of harmony and melancholy that I love so much. Nostalgia also gives it an edge.  :P That damn nostalgia...it's tough to beat.

I def hear some nu-metal during the intro and the verses of Alone. I get an old school Sevendust and Linkin Park vibe.

IR rules.  Sleight of Hand is one of the best songs I've ever heard by any artist.  Just amazing.

I also love EoP.  Great album.  First time I heard Mangini.  Thought he was great even then.  SI is good but doesn't really great me.  Just Watch Me is a fantastic song though.
