Did you guys hear the preview of their new album? Brooks Wackerman is a beast!  :metal :metal

Nightmare is one of the godliest albums they have produced. Rocks  :metal  :metal  :metal  :metal  :metal  :metal

Just started really getting into Avenged Sevenfold, mainly through Hail To The King. I really like Waking The Fallen, City of Evil has some great songs that are very euro metal inspired by stuff like Helloween, Gamma Ray etc. It's a power metal album. But their other stuff didn't do it for me.... Until Hail To The King.

Hail To The King is brilliant. The influences are quite obvious, but it works for them. Coming Home may be my favorite of the bunch. It's clearly a Maiden inspired song, more like reunion era Maiden actually. Planets is great, so is Heretic. I can't wait to see what they do next. I'm curious if they will continue in this direction. Hope they do.

I got nothing against with Hail to the King, with the exception of This Means War (where, I don't care how they twist it, it does sound almost exactly like Metallica's Sad But True), but your opinion may be a minority one.  For me, personally, I would like it if they do keep going of what they did with City of Evil or Nightmare and twist in a way that does not sound like a rehash.  Odd that I think this way since out of all of their albums, their self-titled is the only album from theirs in my Top-50.

Hail To the King single handedly killed my interest in this band.

I understand the issues people have with Hail to the King, but I still think it's fairly strong. Nightmare is my favorite.

Just.. more consistent I guess, there's not much else to it. self-titled has the better songs but is not as consistent.

I'm pretty sure the people who prefer self-titled over City of Evil are in the vast minority though, so it shouldn't be too big of a surprise

I understand about consistency. Self Titled has my favorites: Brompton Cocktail, A Little Piece of Heaven, and Unbound (The Wild Ride), but some of my least favs: Dear God, Lost, Almost Easy, and Scream.

Whereas City of Evil has: Seize the Day, Sidewinder, Strength of the World, MIA, and Trashed and Scattered.

Avenged Sevenfold
Nightmare
Waking the Fallen
City of Evil
Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
Hail To the King

Yes, I prefer the Trumpets to HTTK. Not that I particularly like either, but I at least have some fond memories associated with Trumpets. It has a nostalgia factor associated with it, though to be fair that's pretty much my only connection with A7X in general at this point.

DitR would be right above Hail to the King for me, coming in at #5. Some really good songs on there! My favorites are Until the End (this is actually one of my favorite A7X songs), The Fight, Demons and the Iron Maiden cover of Flash of the Blade

To be fair I only gave Hail to the King one listen (and wasn't impressed) my ranking would be:

City of Evil

Waking the Fallen

Nightmare
Avenged Sevenfold

Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
Hail to the King

I really love City of Evil. Top 20 album ever for me  :hefdaddy

HTTK is by far my favorite A7X album. I like City is Evil because of It's power metal, but HTTK just tops it. I love the traditional metal element they incorporated into their sound. Yes, the influences are very obvious but the fact remains, it's an awesome album.

New album must be coming up. Chris Jericho may have accidentally leaked the title and release date. If he's correct, the new album is called Voltaic Oceans and will be released on December 9th

Head on over to their website and ask questions to the deathbot. Type in the album name for a response, Arin Ilejay, The Rev, Mike Portnoy, etc. Have some fun with it

New single "The Stage" streaming on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBYVlFXsEME

Just finished my first listen, guitar solo is a bit too stretched out but the song is really good! Structure reminds me heavily of City of Evil, and I'm really really glad to see the return of the acoustic Synyster Gates outro, really impressed.

That sounds better than thee few songs I heard from HTTK.

That is a weird video for A7X. It's not the sort of thing I ever imagined them doing. It was an ok video but didn't really help sell the song IMO. It all sounds promising though.
