Favorite guitar solo on BC&SL?
« on: July 22, 2010, 09:42:45 AM »
IMO it is the second one on The Shattered Fortress.

Thoughts?

Yeah, it's verry good Solo, like it very much

I also love the AROP solo, but I think The Best of Times wins this for me.

The solo from TBOT is sheer melodic heaven.  I also think the Wither solo is great, as is the one from The Shattered Fortress.  I think the one from AROP may be the least of them.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Make a poll!

Anyway, TBOT really takes the cake. JP's leads on BC&SL are fuckin' phenomenal.

Besides ANTR and AROP, the album has great guitar solos.

TBOT is the winner, though. Now I wanna listen.

Not TBOT. TCOT's guitar solo at the end wins it for me.

The Best of Times wins, definitely. TSF solo is very nice, but I think second place would go to A Rite of Passage solo. It's really damn great and energetic.

Isn't it amazing how varied this boards taste are for solos.  Dt's music is so varied that people with different taste in music flock to them.  This is why I love DT.

Probably the one in TBOT, but they're all great (except the solos in ANTR, which are a bit boring).

The Best Of Times. Runner up goes to the melodic part (Blue Rhapsody part) in TCOT, I really think that stands out, especially live.

The solo in The Best of Times is one of my all time favorite solos. It is a perfect balance between fast playing and slower more emotional playing.

Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

I love the TBOT one.
But, I think my favourite is the AROP one. It's noodly, but it sounds really cool.

The Best of Times solo is my 3rd favorite DT solo, behind only Octavarium and the one that begins at 2:10 in ITPOE Part 1.

I think it's pretty much impossible to choose a greatest solo from that album, or maybe all their albums.

TBOT easily wins, but both the into and outro solos in TCOT are amazing.  Wither and TSF are also really good.

Without a fraction of a doubt, The Best of Times. That solo is everything that makes Petrucci one of the best in the business.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

The Best of Times. It shows so much of Petrucci's ability in such an emotional way.

I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.
