So I was at Borders today and I found Metanoia. Kinda weird they'd have it, but cool nonetheless. I've never heard this before, so it should be fun.
:tup

It's a sweet listen and an interesting look behind Signify-era PT, where the band finally comes together as a full band and these improvised jams are pretty good stuff! There's parts you'll recognize from Signify/Insignificance, but there's a lot that is unique to this album!

I do too, aside from the last two on my list, every song on LBS is great/fantastic/omgsplooge, it's just that I like all those other songs more. :D

I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

Deadwing 8/10
In Absentia 8/10
Stupid Dream 7/10
On The Sunday of Life 7/10

Fear Of A Blank Planet 4/10
The Incident 3.5/10

The SMS and UTD love are great but LS and Incident ratings are a bit depressing. I felt The Incident brought back some of that great atmospheric parts of the earlier albums while still keeping in line with the modern stuff.

Stupid Dream would be my suggestion, although I think a lot of others here may also suggest In Absentia or even their latest, The Incident. It really depends on what you like, though - do you like more atmospheric, Pink Floydian style spacey rock? Or some heavier, metal-edged groovy rock? Their earlier albums fall into the former while the last few releases grew heavier and heavier, while their last album seems to have a good balance of both.

Happy new year to everyone! After 2010 was a year of catching up on reissues of old music (and the DVD releases), for me 2011 is going to be a year for new music. First will be Blackfield's third album in March, followed by my second solo album in September (a double CD / blu-ray release) and later the album with Mikael. A new Blackfield website will launch soon with artwork and audio - see you on the tour!

Just ordered a few more things from Burningshed:

On the Sunday of Life
Metanoia
We Lost the Skyline

Once this arrives I'll pretty much have everything that Burningshed has to offer. I think the only things I'd be missing is Voyage 34 (on CD, have it on vinyl), Up the Downstair (on CD, have on vinyl) and a few 5.1 discs, as well as every other vinyl (except LBS because I have that on vinyl, as well as CD/DVDA)

I'm having problems with doing rankings because I would prefer Stupid Dream to FoaBP, FoaBP to Signify, and Signify (marginally) to Stupid Dream.

Solo album in September? Aww mannnnn I was expecting like March or April considering recording finished some while back etc etc. Still, beggars can't be choosers and we're getting a double album and it's Steven Wilson so why am I complaining

I guess there's no chance Blackfield will be touring Australia?

To me, LBS has always been an album where my opinion has changed every now and then.
Yes it's a great album, but how great?
The best thing about it for me, might also be a bad thing, because almost half of the album aka: Last Chance, Hatesong, Russia on Ice and the title track are all top15 PT-songs to me, but even though the rest of the album is great, this still manages to cause some sort of a rift.

Last Chance has one of the best riffs, the ending. Also love the use of the PT, Sky Moves Sideways, flute sound.

I'm probably missing something but I never got the connection between the first and second part of Last Chance. It's a great song but I never understood it.

I felt The Incident brought back some of that great atmospheric parts of the earlier albums while still keeping in line with the modern stuff.

Totally agree.

Something like "Flicker" totally sounds like it could have been on Signify or The Sky Moves Sideways, but still has a bit of that modernness to it.

Ultimately, The Incident as a whole sounds like they decided to use all or most of the styles and sounds they have utilized throughout their career and threw them all into that one record.  I think that is a big part of why I love it so much; it has a lot of the more modern styles that I dig like crazy, but also harkens back to their 90s material quite a bit, too.  It is like the best of both worlds. :coolio
