Listen to the whole album, and when you see tracks 5 and later 10 coming up, prepare for an enlightment and a new way of life.

I hope you mean The Incident song cycle, and not The Incident the track...

I find it surprising to see so many people rank In Absentia so high, it's almost shocking.

Okay, that's fine I guess.

I still don't understand the love for Heartattack in a Layby, though. It seems really boring to me compared to the rest of the album. Granted, this is my favorite album of all time so it's still a very interesting song. Gravity Eyelids is awesome though.

Heartattack in a Layby is pretty amazing because... it just is!
The weaker songs on the album would be The Sound of Muzak, Wedding Nails, Collapse the Light into Earth and Blackest Eyes.

It just shows many different sides of the band, and all of them really well. I think The Incident and Fear of a Blank Planet definitely win, but I can see why it would be someone's #1.

I found it uninteresting on the beginning to. And then I entered a phase, it was January with snow, gray and cold outside, when I had the song stuck in my head for like two weeks, and since then I absolutely love it. It's one of the most minimalistic songs in terms of instruments PT has ever written, but that's what makes it incredible - every sound is extremely important. And the acoustic guitar after the chorus (?) is so full of sadness that only Don't Hate Me is stronger in this regard.

Heartattack in a Layby is pretty amazing because... it just is!

The Sound of Muzak - obvious. The others are good songs, Prodigal is fairly weak.

It would have been Wedding Nails at the bottom, except I really loved the Anesthetize version, so it got bumped up.

Except for Collapse the Light Into Earth, I agree sort of.

For me:
Collapse the Light into Earth
Strip the Soul
Heartattack in a Layby
Lips of Ashes
.3
Trains
TCHAMT
Gravity Eyelids
Blackest Eyes
Wedding Nails
The Sound of Muzak

The Sound of Muzak is a good pop song.  It just absolutely does not fit at all with the album under any context, it feels like it should have been put on Lightbulb Sun instead...

I actually agree with this, although the song would be nothing without Gavin's drumming.

Lots of people besides you and this nonexistant dark side worship Heartattack.  Lots of people think Gravity Eyelids is a good song, but there are better songs than on the album.  We get it, you really like Gravity Eyelids.  Cool.  Now stop building yourself up as some kind of maverick.

And now because everyone else is doing it:

Trains
Heartattack in a Layby
Prodigal
Collapse the Light Into Earth
Blackest Eyes
Strip the Soul
.3
Lips of Ashes
The Sound of Muzak
Wedding Nails
Gravity Eyelids
The Creator Had a Mastertape

All are great songs though.

Yeah, most PT fans adore "Heartattack in a Layby" (it is in my top 10), and "Gravity Eyelids" is pretty well-liked, too.  Really, almost every song on IA is great, except for "Wedding Nails" and "Strip the Soul," both of which are merely good. ;)

Nope.  "Collapse..." was top 5 when I did my PT top 50 last fall, and "Lips of Ashes" was pretty high, too.  I feel the latter is criminally underrated.  "Lips of Ashes" in 5.1 is just stupid good. :coolio

Nice, though if any Porcupine Tree makes it to my funeral it will no doubt be "Stars Die"

The only songs on IA that i really love would be Trains and Gravity Eyelids.
The rest is really good, but the b-sides during these sessions (drown with me, chloroform and futile) would beat most of the album.

Lips of Ashes is great. Collapse the Light Into Earth is very good and far better than the Pop Three of the album.

Anything think the next live DVD will be called Time Flies? The last two were titled after their respective album's longest track (Arriving Somehere and Anesthetize). I think the title works well for a DVD, especially if they do something that compiles tracks from different shows, a la DT's Chaos In Motion, except hopefully with better quality.
