Can't we just have it all here? This thread's going to be ignored by 90% of the community anyway.

Speaking of Indie Folk, anyone heard Sufjan Steven's Illinois?  Great album...
Also, Arcade Fire is great, and so is Damien Rice, and so is Mew...

Light Chasers is an album by Cloud Cult, not a band.

Ehg, sound quality may be a little iffy. Starting in ten minutes. Playing P.O.S. beforehand, get your ads out of the way now if you want to listen.

As you all may have read, I found Deerhoof a little while ago.

My new teacher introduced my class to Tegan And Sara, I was the only one to go and check them out :lol. They sounded good, and so far I've obtained Sainthood and The Con. I'm really digging these chicks/this band.

I don't even know if this is Indie, but well... Anyone enjoy Kings of Convenience? Not my favorite band ever but they have some cool soft tunes that can be pretty relaxing.

Recommendations: I'd rather dance with you, Failure, The build up, Know How

The singer (Erlend Øye) also has another band, The Whitest Boy Alive that is a bit more guitar driven (not that much). Not as good as Kings imo, but still decent.

Recommendations: Burning, Golden Cage, Done with you

I might re-check them out soon.

How good is their latest (2009?) album? I recall thinking their debut was ok and the second album being pretty good (all songs I cited except Failure are from that one).

EDIT: Checking Wikipedia, didn't know about "Versus"... Turns out the one I like is their third, "Quiet is the new loud".

So I'd almost entirely dismissed indie for some reason until about a month ago, and I've basically only been listening to it since. It's the most exciting time in my music taste I've ever had, every single album I'm listening to is amazing at the minute and there are more to come.

And yeah, Sonata, I listened to quite a bit of KoC when you sent them in for my roulette and loved them, so I plan to check them out soon.  :D

If you want more albums of 2011, I recommend Deerhoof Vs. Evil (by Deerhoof... derp :P). You will not be disappoint.

It's just a similar type of sound and music, like any other genre basically.

Generally a lot lo-fi stuff gets classified as Indie. Lots of singer-songwriter stuff that's just a touch not quite singer-songwriter.

it really connotates that a band is not on a major label, and is putting out its own music via an independent label or pressing it themselves. I never thought of it as a genre of music. The term became popular during the Seattle grunge movement, when basically Sub Pop records had a few major bands ( Nirvana, Soundgarden) leave their Inde label and move to a major label ( Nirvana going form SubPop to Geffen) etc etc.. I think the internet and Youtube etc has clouded that since there are now many ways and mediums to get music to be heard, it used to be that you had to have a piece of vinyl to present to play on the radio..

Not sure if these guys are too electronic for this thread but... PASSION PIT.  These guys are great songwriters and their production is very interesting in a proggy kind of way.  They definitely have that indie vibe though that should make them relevant here.  If you check them out, give "Moth's Wings" a listen... it's EPIC!

I would not consider myself a massive Indie music fan, but one band I absolutely love is Silversun Pickups. Their music just makes me tingle.

I also don't know if this counts as Indie or Folk or something else but I really love this track from Willy Mason, he's got some really great songs.

Just bought the album Passive Me, Aggressive You by a band called The Naked and Famous.  Somebody on here recommended it to me a while back... I can now confirm that it is indeed awesome!  To me, they sound like a mix of Passion Pit, Pure Reason Revolution, Nine Inch Nails, and later Radiohead.  Check out the song "Young Blood" if you like super-catchy stuff!  Also, the production is AWESOME!

I've been getting into the Indies as well lately. I absolutely love Bright Eyes, Mew, Eisley, The Dear Hunter (it counts), Reign of Kindo (does that count?) and My Morning Jacket. I've heard The Decemberists but I haven't really gotten into them. Anyway, looking forward to exploring more of the Independent music scene!
